Cotton balls, cotton roll, certain cotton makeup-remover pads (cut with scissors), yarns, etc...

Common success story: you must let the cotton soak up the eliquid before vaping. From a few hours, to overnight. Otherwise, the cotton will be too dry, and will slightly scortch/burn. I've got a vivi-tank and an A7 running with the makeup-removal 'cotton round', and as long as I keep it properly wet, it's working great. Also have a Phoenix clone, using a double thickness of Peaches-n-cream cotton yarn from Walmart. Only time I start to taste anything other than the eliquid is when they start to get dry (time to drip in a few more drops). Simple, but effective, and quite inexpensive.

Anyone know if this cotton wick is ok to use without boiling? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Square-Brai...t=LH_DefaultDomain_0&var=&hash=item4168065ac6

It does say raw, unprimed and unwaxed...so I would assume that would mean you don't need to boil it? I am boiling a little bit right now to be safe, but I am going to try it boiled and unboiled when I get my kanthal in, since #2 is a little bit to big to fit inside a evod/t3/protank coil. so i am going to have to recoil it on the cotton itself.

So does anyone know whether to boil USP cotton? I imagine that if it is sterile, there is no reason to boil it...

I'm 99% sure, the medical stuff doesn't need to be boiled, since chemicals are not used to sterilize it.

I don't boil it my gauze, but with yarn I do since the opposite is true and it isn't sterile

Try it again, all the steps. First time I tried it without boiling, taste bad all the time. Second time I tried, boil it once, taste bad. Third time I tried boiling 4 times, each time up to 30 mins. and squeeze it dry. After 4 times, let it dry for days. After wicking it, leave it alone for couple hours for the juice to soak in and cotton expand. First 10 to 20 puffs were bad, but it get better. Now, after it dry for days, maybe a week or so, only the first 1 or 2 full puffs were bad. And, you will get better in doing it. it's getting easier and easier.

I have no luck with cotton. Just take medical cotton dressings, boiled it, let it dry, coil it and all I get is an awful taste and smell. This smell can get me vomiting. I let it rest for 15 minutes then try again but nothing improved. I afraid of using silica wick but I have no choice.

I use butchers twine, I don't boil it though. It is working nicely so far

Hello everyone; something I'd like to share, I build my own wick and coils out of cotton, silica, ekowool I tried this a couple of times and it works every time I fire up the coil with no wick inside a few times about 5 sec. Insert my cotton wick apply enough juice to saturate it and fire it again a few times to burn off the juice but not enough to burn the cotton add more juice and do this a few times and I get no funky flavor at all when I vape give it a try I use to get a funny flavor even after boiling and drying the cotton now none.
