There was a website that showed laws for every state and country but I can't find it.

Probably like NJ, no allowed anywhere. You can't smoke in central park but I see people smoking all the time.

Not living in NY I am not up on all the latest developments. I do remember at one point the police had said they would NOT enforce the smoking ban in Central Park. This may have changed and I would strongly recommend verification prior to proceeding.

Overall, they are beyond ridiculous over there.

I though NYC was going to ban ecig sales in the city. not sure. See VaporSearchUSA.com and click NY and also check Jersey

Ah you were asking where you can USE it. In general you can use an ecig anywhere smoking is allowed. Private businesses do not have to let you vape but you can ask. Some bars may allow vaping. You can sneak a vape anywhere you can hide the vapor. Don't believe the bs commercials that show some guy vaping in a restaurant then telling the waiter to to get lost when the waiter tries to stop him. You cannot vape wherever you want. Private businesses have control over what they allow on their premises UNLESS there is a law telling them they HAVE to allow something (like breastfeeding).

I vape everywhere. If I lived in NY or NJ, I would still vape everywhere. Until the are vape police I will continue to do so! I probably would still vape if there were vape police.

I don't want to ask your age or be insulting if you're young- but my mother vapes everywhere. I have to keep reminding her to put down the pv but she's always whipping it out and vaping. I always get the "oh, I forgot". She even uses it as a little pointer. Maybe because she's older? No one has ever said a word to her.

Dormouse is correct. Private businesses do not have to allow you to vape, but I would make sure to ask anyway. The best way to get vaping accepted is to do it where you can. Then people just might ask "what are you doing?" and you can explain.

You can use it pretty much anywhere you can smoke. In NY, NJ that's practically nowhere. I thought NJ was the only state that banned ecig use in some outside areas, but I could be wrong.

Thanks for all the replies!

I think that's basically what I was guessing, that you can use it pretty much everywhere you can smoke (which is NOWHERE in NYC as Swedishfish mentions.) I've never smoked in my apartment b/c I can't stand the smell (but love the nicotine) so I am just learning what my options are. Related question - if you are using a flavored liquid, how long does it take the smell to dissipate?

Also, the most current NYC protocol is that smoking in parks, pedestrian malls, etc. is banned but that police are not ticketing for it (but they can.) Bloomberg said NYC citizens can "police each other" - doesn't that sound like a great idea?

Ah, NYC and NJ, the bastions of liberty and liberalism.
(as if the meaning of liberal anymore means something entirely different.)

Doesn't the laws of NYC go against common sense anymore?
And that the government knows better?
If there's a problem they have a law forbidding it as a solution.
Crime, ban guns so you can't defend yourself.
To much salt or cholesterol, ban it.
Indoor smoke bad for others ban it outdoors as well.

Friggin commies!

It dissipates pretty quickly. I can smell some juice while someone is vaping, but not after they've stopped vaping. Pretty much like a scented candle. Some actually smell really good! I vape mint or fruit flavors that you really can't smell much. I blow it in my husband's face all the time for him to guess the flavor. Sometimes he guesses it, most times not.

I was just in NYC for several days over the holiday. I vaped on the street, the occasional bathroom, and pretty much anywhere that I didn't think it would offend anyone. I've pretty new to vaping in public, but the smell seems to dissipate with the quickness. I've been hangin out at my buddy's apartment chain vaping this week and neither him or his girlfriend ever even comment on the smell. His girlfriend keeps reiterating that she wants one! I would say to just vape low key - I vaped all through the airport last week as long as I wasn't standing next to someone... and just resisted the urge on the plane. no need to raise red flags! that's my .02 - fwiw. good luck!

I don't think most politicians dream this stuff up because it's something they want. I've never seen Bloomburg stroll around central park. They do it because that's what most of the people that vote for a politician want.

This is just me, personally I'm not particularly interested in other people's opinions about politics so it doesn't bother me either way. But it just might turn off some of the members who may otherwise support, or donate to a cause we all believe in (not banning pvs) if there are a bunch of digs regarding politics and political parties. I'm not sure I'd like someone trying to stick a NicoDerm patch on my back without asking me. Nor would I want anyone trying to shove a Nicorette in my mouth. We has vapers are trying to make this more accepted than smoking has become. I vape where I know it's accepted. If there is a question as to whether or not I can vape, I politely ask. You'd be very surprised at how many good reactions I recieve approaching it in this manner.

I live in NYC and I pretty much vape outside wherever I want to. I walk my dog in Central Park and I vape away without any hassle, ditto for Riverside Park, dog parks etc. I've encountered no issue. The only indoors places I vape at are my work and my institute. So far as stores and restaurants are concerned, I just wait till I get outside. Its crossed my mind that the cops might think I am getting high, especially when my carto goes snap, crackle and pop. But I figure I have good karma so the thought doesn't stop me from vaping. :vapor:
