Where did you hear about e-cigs?

I can't for the life of me remember exactly where the first place I saw them was.. I think I was researching something along the lines of "safer cigarettes" after I learned of a family member's diagnosis of lung cancer. This was right around the time the e-cig was invented and I thought it was the coolest thing ever, not to mention the potential of eliminating smoke from the lives of users. Not to comment on the health aspects of it, but I'll just say my uncle and dad's diagnosis's (both lung cancer) were a driving force for my interest in e-cigs and the industry.

Became obsessed with the idea but was a student at the time and pretty limited on funds. Got going eventually, probably a year after I first heard of em.. Haven't looked back since!

How'd you come across them?

Ben

Back in September when I was shutting down for the night I checked out the news clips and noticed "FDA BANS ELECTRONIC CIGARETTES".

Not knowing what electronic cigarettes were I clicked on it and read what they were talking about. I must have stayed up for 3 hrs googling and watching videos on these things. I got so caught up in this that I couldn't sleep that night.

Again, the next day and night, watching, reading and trying to figure all of this out. I was "in" but still needed to figure out who and what I was "in" with. It's a shame that I didn't find ECF until November but I wanted it and went after it.

I saw a couple of those gas station sets but really didn't think much of it. Then someone on a makeup forum posted about and got me curious. When I checked back in with her a couple of months later she had been tobacco free since she got hers. Another friend then mentioned that he was using a PV and had quit using tobacco. That sold me....

Several years ago while I was reading up on something cig-related online (was either about how far state governments were going to recoup tax money from online cig purchasers, or the 'practical' effects of public smoking bans like the one that was then about to hit my area), I stumbled across a very short entry on some obscure blog about the Ruyan e-cig.

My interest was captured immediately, and I searched for word on any semi-reliable way to obtain them in the US, but alas there appeared to be none at that time... not to mention the chances of being able to keep enough refill liquid on hand (and at a palatable cost) if you did roll the dice somewhere. Think I may have even posted at some big smokers' forum to ask if anyone had further info or interest, but there just wasn't much out there at all at that time, including any buzz. So I just made a mental note to search again every so often.

Well, it ended up not being until last fall that I actually did search again. (Guess I subconsciously assumed that if e-cigs were any good at all, their availability would somehow end up 'in my face' without me even looking. NOT!) What reminded me was some small e-cig display ad on a web page I was reading, maybe a smoking-related news story. Don't even recall what brand of e-cig it was for, but I wanted the 'big picture' instead of any promo material on a certain brand anyway, so I then searched the generic term "electronic cigarette" from the ad...

And BOOM!!! I came upon ECF lickety split. I'll tell ya, I was simultaneously very excited but also a bit dismayed that somehow I'd managed to miss out on what had already been years of great products and possibilities -- especially due to finding out at the same time that 'THEY' wanted to take these away from us ASAP!!! Really wished I'd had that time to get even more progress and distance from real cigs under my belt already, but at least I did get here eventually!:nun:

I'd heard about them a few times but didn't think much of it till hubs came home from a business trip last fall with a business card for one of the suppliers here. There were a few guys at the company he visited that used PVs. He tried it a bit and liked it. Of course I had to obsessively research first, and I was sold pretty much by the time I ordered our first kit.

A friend came for a visit, puffing on an Njoy. Said he picked it up at a truck stop, and it was really helping him (he was a 2 pack a day marlboro lights smoker) He offered to pick me up a kit next time he passed through, but I too, had to obsessively research. I inevitably found the E-Cig forum and read and read and read.. then the ordering began. :D

PS..my friend still smokes analogs, but uses his e-cig while driving, so it helps him somewhat. I've tried to talk him into trying the kr8081, but since he constantly travels across the country (and really has no permanent mailing address) the truck stop stash is all he can manage, for now.

Hopefully some day we'll be able to buy our favorite brands of e-cigs like we used to buy a pack of butts...7-11, etc. etc.

I had bought a tin of Camel snus, they were ok but not great, so I googled alternatives. Somehow came across an article on e-cigs in the search.

What made me seriously consider buying one though was later on when my local tobacco shop starting carrying them...incidentally, a KR808. I had initially planned to rely on them for cartomizers as I wouldn't need to wait for and pay shipping, but their cartomizer quality isn't as good as what's available online.
