Nicotine is extracted from tobacco.
No way!! Are you serious!? I'd have never know this...

You CAN extract it from tobacco though.
I had a bowhunting friend that told me they used to use nicotine to poison tip their arrows since it'd bring down the kill faster with negligible side-effect to the meat. In any case, he said they'd continually boil down straight (unflavored) chew in alcohol until they got a syrupy black "oil." That was the extracted nicotine.

However, if you were to try this you'd probably get yourself sick or worse since nicotine is a poison not to be played with. Although I've considered it, my logical brain says "stay they hell away" and I'm gonna listen.

If JC told you they got their nicotine from there they aren't very smart. I'd be suprised if they would tell at all, but if I had to guess I would bet they get it at a place like sigma, probably a reseller.

Most likely nicotine from the us guys making their own juice comes from companies like sigma but it's sold with the understanding it's not for consumption. It would be like saying "yeah this the company I trick to get my nicotine, but dont tell them it's being smoked"

You guess is comes from Sigma? I thought I just said that a couple posts ago.

JC didn't tell me anything. It's in their report right on their front page.

It's a little worrisome to me that JC is using something for human consumption that Sigma says isn't for human consumption.

Don't be worried, the FDA *IS* all over this and their best shot was basically a report that proves they are as safe as nicotine gum.

They HAVE to sell that "not for human consumption", it's pure nicotine and will kill you if you got a small amount on your skin. That way if some idiot does the math wrong and ends up smoking some 480mg formula and dies, they don't get sued.

If they had nicotine that was extracted from tobacco and was pure it would still be labeled the same way.

Saw that, when I read you saying it's on the front page.

If I were JC I'd be afraid of my competition running to their nic supplier and dropping a dime on me, but I guess they either are in the clear (I have no idea how) or just insane.

I thought the same thing. Then when I went to Sigma looking to buy it myself to make my own juice, they said it's not for human consumption, this made me scratch my head a bit.

But, on the other end, if they want FDA approval and everyone's buy in that it's a safer alternative to traditional cigarettes, reports are going to be published, ingredients are going to be listed, and supplyers are going to be named.

I'm not sure there is any getting around that.

However, if JC is using the nic in a shady way, I'm don't see how that can be good!

Don't understand the "extreme danger" of making your own liquid.

Pure nicotine is about 1000mg/ml and is a liquid. So you have to dilute it
by a factor of 25 to make 40 mg juice. (1000/25 = 40)

For example, why not take 10ml of pure nicotine and dump it into 250
ml of PG or VG, then shake vigourously. It's all done 10 seconds after
you open the nicotine bottle. No danger anymore.

Wear rubber gloves ( and maybe a raincoat ?) and do it outside in fresh air.

What's the extreme danger here ?

Am I missing something ?

My highschool science teacher once told the class that one drop of pure nicotine applied to the tongue would burn right through like acid. It really is dagerous stuff. I'd just assume leaving the danger to other people and just spend the money on bottles of ready to use stuff. But, that's just me. I already saved a ton by switching to e-cigs. I don't need to risk my health/life to save a couple more bucks.
