Where to buy the icon, or would you recommend something similar better than it?

I love this forum too, Bluefosho!

That said, I don't recommend the Icon.

---
- For one thing, it only fits unprotected batteries.
- Also (and this is just personal), I don't like the Icon's button placement on the bottom. Just seems weird to me.
- The batteries it does fit are also fairly low as far as the mAh rating goes (like for a mod). 600 to 900 mAh. I would presume you're looking at mods with longer battery life in mind, not shorter.
- Also, it's a 3.7 volt device. There are a bazillion 3.7v mods around, in all shapes & sizes. If you're going to get a mod, being stuck at 3.7 is...well, not as good as variable voltage, lol. But even that aside...there are nicer-shaped 3.7v devices out there, that do fit protected batteries (with higher mAh ratings too), for a price that is comparable or better than the Icon's.
---

Personally, I'm buying the ProVari this week!

ProVari variable voltage e-cigarette! Order today!

Absolutely thrilled with the choice, too. Beautiful, solid, extremely well made unit...variable voltage (3.3v all the way up to 6v, adjustable by 0.1v increments)...gorgeous, large LED display...and all sorts of neato features built-in (like multi-meter capability...constant monitoring for a shorted atty/carto & protection from such...etc). She's a beauty!

You can see a nice 15 minute ProVari video review from Scott Bonner on YouTube:

Now granted, the price is high. But I've spent 7 months looking at all kinds of models, videos, reviews (speaking of mods here)...and never really found something that called to me. Until the ProVari. She's expensive, but she's also (in my opinion) a solid, worthwhile investment in something that isn't going to grow dated anytime soon, or fail to satisfy. Probably the only thing that might make me someday get out my purse again would be if they released a newer version of the ProVari, with different colours...or neato groovy ridges like the 3.7v ProVape-1 has. Though I'm quite pleased with how it is now. So yeah!

Speaking of that...if the ProVari is out of your price range, and/or you just want a 3.7v mod...I would totally recommend the ProVape-1 to you! It's on sale right now...$99.95!

ProVape-1 Electronic Cigarette. Buy one today!

Hope my shameless plug for the device I've chosen has been helpful!
But seriously, I wish you all the best Bluefosho, and happiest vaping too.

It's funny how folks promote their latest wares, while degrading other devices without ever owning them..

IMR batts are safe chemistry and do not vent with flame unlike LI-Ion should the protection circuitry fail. The icon which is nice and compact does indeed perform extremely well with 306 LRs, which is what it was designed for. Batt longevity between recharges about the same as using an eGo that was not designed to vape LRs and 3.7 vice 3.2.

The Icon is available from PureSmoker.

This is the correct response. IMR batteries do not need protection. BTW, the ProVari uses an unprotected battery (IMR).
The Icon is great if you want a 3.7V device. It is a totally different animal than VariVolt. I own a Prodigy V3 and 2 VV devices. If I could only have one, I'd pick the V3.
It is a work of art.

I imagine we would go broke at quite a high rate of speed trying out products. Especially something that has nothing special or different about it. The forums are a great place to give opinions, and yes: you could just never say anything negative. Did you try all the mall units? Or would you let your friends pay $150 for one of them and unrefillable cartridges for $50 and just stand there scared to degrade another device?

Promoting fail units is the crime, not those trying to help people max out their vaping experience and further make the switch from analogs to vaping all that much easier.

Switched, Bluefosho also asked if we would "recommend something similar [sic] better than it" - something similar to, or better than, the Icon.

So I did both.

The ProVape-1 and Icon are both 3.7v mods, both similar in price...but in my personal opinion, the ProVape-1 is a far better & more attractive 3.7v mod (for that price) than the Icon is. That's just my opinion. Recommending the ProVari falls into the "better than" category.

I wouldn't knock someone for recommending the Icon. So I'd appreciate that courtesy extending both ways. We all have opinions, and choice of model is a very subjective thing. (Like I really don't like the button on the bottom of the Icon; others might love that design. So yeah.) Nor does one need to own a unit to be able to intelligently compare features (or lack thereof), design, and price points.

As to "buy Canadian"...a Canadian supplier is facilitating my ProVari purchase (at a profit to the supplier; I felt that was only fair). Do I promote purchasing in Canada? Yes, especially re: juices/liquids, because that presents the least risk to the Canadian customer (i.e. none). Hardware is another thing. While I certainly encourage supporting Canadian suppliers (& think it's more convenient for Canadian customers too, i.e. your order gets to you faster)...

...hardware doesn't present a customs risk (liquids do). And if I could buy the ProVari here, I would. But it's only available there. Buying one mod from across the border...one beautiful, gorgeous mod...doesn't negate or conflict with my usual recommendation to shop Canadian.

Bluefosho, please let us know how things go. Whatever you end up choosing, just make sure it's what suits you best & enjoy! Happy vaping!

That's too bad...I wonder why it doesn't recognize a Canadian CC? I thought you'd just get gouged a little on the exchange or something, but that a CC is a CC?

Sometimes, as a Canuckian, I feel so "second class." That goes for shipping to us, too (or the lack thereof). I mean, how hard is it, REALLY to fill out a little green paper for export?? When I was eBaying, most of my sales orders were from out of country...it's really quite easy to export.

/still pouting that TW charges $40 to ship a couple of atties out of the US...

PureSmoker used to ship to Canada. They quit for a while, tried it again and it seems they have stopped again. In all honesty, it just isn't worth the hassle at the moment. I can't say I blame them.

<<Yes, it is !!.... and worth mentioning: Those in the "know" realize that posting the means of circumventing regulations on an open to all view forum will/can still bring unwanted attention to "Canadian friendly" suppliers outside of Canada, so they avoid posting this information and usually pm between members to advise/suggest how to lessen the risk.

Just sayin... because you can never know who's watching !

So by all means keep flapping your gums and soon we will see more of them refuse to do business with us. In case anyone hasn't noticed, there is a ban in Canada. Call it what you want.

Did you folks flap your gums in the 60s or 70s or did you keep it a close secret. I know some folks didn't live in that era, too bad you would of learned some valuable info and wisdom.

... and then folks wonder why Vets keep to themselves...
