Hi...I'm looking to step up my vaping rig to a Provari or Icon. I'm not sure which will be a better buy?

On one hand..the Provari looks like it'll give me all the options out there. If I want to go the 3.7v with a low resistance atty or 5v on a standard atty...it'll do both with the selectable voltage. That seems like a good way to experiment with different settings and find the sweet spot. The Provari also has a regulated output which means that it keeps the voltage the same no matter where the battery life is, giving you consistent results all the time...I don't think the Icon does that?

The Icon is fixed at 3.7v and I would probably go with a LR atty. Obviously, I won't be able to try a true 5/6v scenario...even though from what I understand....a 3.7v with a LR atty is pretty much the same?

What are your recommendations?

I also have to keep in mind the $60 price difference between the two (the Provari being more)

Yup, I agree, the previous poster nailed it. I was in Hog Heaven. My ProVari w/MAP tank. . .just a vapin up Clouds of Vapor. Then. . .my MAP Tank died. Crappo. . .Then, my Pro needed Manufacturer attention. Crappo again. . .Damn, my Hog just went to Haties in a handbag. Well, I break out my retired ProVape-1, and Stormy came through for me with a Storm Tank. Well, I miss my Vari, but how bad off can one be? It ain't Hog Heaven, but it's pretty close. JMHO

Cheers,

The Icon is substantially smaller but it is still pretty heavy for a 3.7V device. It is very well made though (which accounts for the weight) and I do like its bottom locking button design. My biggest gripe with the Icon is that has a very airy draw by default, more airy than I personally prefer.

The Provari also has a slightly airy draw but it is not too bad at all. It is obviously bigger and a bit heavier (and takes a bigger battery regardless of which battery option you choose) but it is a substantially more feature rich device, and not just because it is variable volt. Yes, you can definitely use LR atomizers with it but I have found it to be a little finicky with those. I think you will find much greater vaping satisfaction by pairing it with standard resistance atomizers (like a Joye 510, 2.3 ohm) in the 4.5-4.8V range or with HV atomizers (~3.5ohms) around 5.8V or so.

If you go with a Provari (or a Darwin or probably any other high-end, feature-heavy VV device), I would suggest having a backup of some sort just in case something goes wrong. The more complex the device, the more that can go wrong.
