Hi all!

@ Ralph.........EWWWWWWWWWWWW! BLECK!!

Jan, the pup thing is not going so well. I don't know if it's inbreeding or what but she refuses to learn. She has aggressive barking issues when she thinks she needs attention NOW and she does not, still, understand the word NO. She 'boxes' I guess you could call it.......meaning she consistently paws and claws also to get attention and refuses to stop. I have tried patience, I have tried putting her to the floor to show her she is NOT the alpha and much to my abhorrence I have had to hit her also. I have NEVER EVER had to do that to a pup! I am at the point that I am not sure if we should keep her. I do know that with this one we need to give more attention and time than we have any other pet. I have actually used remarkable restraint, as has Bruce, but there is a point when a person can take no more. I kennel her occasionally when she gets like that too but nothing seems to work. She is hard to pet because she constantly wants to bite your hand. I think it is her way of playing but after all these months she should be minding better than what she does. I am at a loss here and it saddens me greatly. I still like to think that maybe with the right amount of attention and training she would come around but I just don't know anymore. :(

I don't even know if Bruce would let me do it that way Jan. He sometimes thinks she is somehow brain impaired, given her oral issues and does not want to give someone else our problems. It's a hard one to work out..........I hate to admit defeat but do not want to have to constantly beat her into submission (and no.....it is not constantly now ). But honestly, about the only time you can cuddle her or pet her is when she is extremely tired........which is extremely rare. A lot of times she shows remarkable intelligence.....

@ Ralph........thanks for the hugs. I needed it hon.

Puppies are naturally energetic, Norie. I had a 2 year old Goldie that was very active. Wife and I both worked and just couldn't take care of him, finally gave him up for adoption to a family out in the country with 6 kids!!! It was hard watching them drive away with him. :(

You need a pick me up!! :p Imported from the beach...:D

Just popping in for a minute. Hope you're all having a good day

Sorry to hear about the pup.((((Nora)))) My oldest dog was sort of like that- barky, jumping and impossible to pet (every time you tried you ended up with a hand in his mouth). It was a lot to put up with. He did finally settle down but not til he grew older (about 2 or 3) and had another dog to play with. I hope your pup settles down fast- cause there's only so much that you can do. Even if you can find your pup a better place it would still be heartbreaking to not be able to keep him.

I got a friend who had the same problems as you. He also had two toddlers at home. Out of desperation, he turned to a training collar. I don't really like them but I have to admit, it made a world of difference with the dog. He is now well behaved and the collar is no longer used.

(((((Norie))))) Sorry she isn't adjusting well :( Maybe in time she will but I can understand where you are coming from. We had a lab mix once and she was extremely hyper. We had her for about a year when she jumped on my daughter pinned her down and growled.......my daughter was 3. Even after that it was hard to see her go :( We aren't sure why she did that but we also didn't know where she came from. We adopted her after the litter was dropped off at the vet. They were about 6 months old then.

Hope everyone had a good day!!
