There's diffferent types of LED some backlit, some edge lit but odd that you'd find it 'powdery' in that it is what the backlight addresses mainly - contrast. I have an older LED thin rear projector - entirely different than the "LED/LCD" type. With my bank of south facing window - even though I do have shades, I needed something that wouldn't reflect. Something that people sometimes only 'consider' when the TV comes home  :)

Chances are if jj's is '3D compatible' it's a LED backlit type.

I liked "I have a couple Acer monitors, found them middle of the road.... "

Always nice to see someone who knows what he is talking about!!!

Hey Jane.... had a friend that went to NYC and took some pictures and I got some and did some photoshopping on them... but this one interested me.

Would you happen to know where that's at? I didn't ask at the time, but next time I see him I will.

Well thanks. ;) Sometimes it's a very narrow pointed subject - in this case, photoshop driven. When you have a purpose, you can gather much more info  Even now I'd be so far behind, but at least I'd know where to look :D You should see my notes for picking the right computer to run it

Cute! Maybe Tweety visited? :D

I had similar in the driveway cats - probably looking for tweety  I have an inside cat so it wasn't him unless he's finally figured out the lock and door handle.

It was my cousin. Too cold for me! :)

One more game! See ya, Jokers!

Carry on!

There are so many factors that affect picture quality. And your older LCD may have had other factors affecting it than the backlighting. Monitors have been backlit for longer than TV's have been - and which likely led to TV's using some backlit scheme. And the contrast should be better with both backlit and edge back lit TVs. But on monitors, pixel pitch and refresh rate (and resolution of course) really affect pic quality, and with reading text and fine photo editing, a low pixel pitch is necessary for sharp text and accurate masks, selections and other things that go beyond the scope here.

It looks like the acer has a decent pixel pitch at .265mm. Mine (HP) is .255mm. The suggested range is anything below .28mm, but for me, and some of this is subjective or 'eye condition' I've had trouble with anything above where the HP is at.. On monitors, video cards come into play and for example with photoshop, it's suggest that you take certain "default" settings on the vid card to zero - ie. the ones that are attempting to reach some kind of muddy middle. And matching res, refresh rate and certain accelerations have an effect as well. Again TMI for normal use, I suppose.

Some early Sony LCD's didn't have antiglare - I think most have that option now. But some without light problems prefer one without it.

Lots of info, thanks. My old LCD, also Acer 23", is at the same pixel pitch, almost identical model without the "L" at end of model #. Reason I got the LED model was to save electricity since it's on all day.

Not meant to confuse you, but both are sharp pixel wise. I like my monitors dimmer so as not to hurt the eyes staring at it all day, but still like it clear of course. The LCD delivered it. The new one only gets more contrast at higher brightness, which isn't what I prefer.

I've been on it a couple days and my eyes are adjusting. Maybe it's me. Who knows. I'll see if I get a headache in a couple weeks.

Got it... some rather good Dell monitors at one time didn't have certain adjustments (or not the range) in newer models and people couldn't believe it. Actually I go into the monitor internals to turn down brightness and adjust contrast and RGB too - which is what Dell had to do at the time - it's usually a 'secret' but they released the access sequence.

And then in photoshop there's monitor profiling - where you have a 'spider' crawling on the screen taking measurements  I remember my thoughts when I first heard of it - you've GOT to be kidding me!

Brightness can be a problem. Compared to most monitors I see around, mine is 'toned down' for the same reason.

Exactly, toned down is how I like it. Don't understand how someone can look at a fully blasting, new monitor. Too hard on the eyes.

I have mine on custom settings...toned down. And that's when the contrast of the old monitor won out. What can I say?
