The odds are terrible. When New York joined MegaMillion, there was an article discussing the probability of winning. The one that stuck with me was —— If you know only one person in Canada and they put the name of everyone in Canada on little slips of paper and put them in a hat, you'd have a better chance of pulling your friend's name than of winning the jackpot on a $1 bet.
