Hi all, new member here and relatively new vaper in terms of knowledge. Believe I can't post links yet so please bear with me on that, I'll try and see what happens.

Had a google around this but seem to be chasing my tail now and was hoping for some help.

I've recently lost my previous (first) Kanger subox but still have the batteries for it (Hopefully photo's are attached but it's the older blue ones, rather than the newer green - Samsung INR18650-25R 2500mAh Battery - 12C, 30A) SAMSUNG INR18650-25R 2500mAh High-drain Battery - 12C, 30A

I was trying to get my head around what batteries I'd need for the new box on order (Istick pico with Melo 3) as it comes with lower ohm coils than I'm used to (.3 and .5) and seems to go down to 0.05 TC .01 Bypass

It's not so much that I'm confused about ohms law (though it's been a while since I used that in anger so we'll see) as the actual battery I have. I'm learning a lot about them that I didn't know previously - It may just be samsung's naming is confusing me, but I'm not confident of that

Is there some way to confirm they're 30A?

Nearly everywhere I google, including mooch's list has that battery as 3.6V, 20A. I've seen some report of model changing from 25R2 to 25R5 but they still both seem to be 20A.

Huge thanks for any help possible,

The battery is indeed a blue Samsung 25R. It is a 20amp continuous discharge rate 2500mAh battery, not 30 amps. Your second picture shows some fraying of the insulator wrap and that battery should be rewrapped to prevent a short circuit; no metal of the cell should be exposed.

I would trust Mooch's accessment of a battery's true specifications over what any vendor might say, and over what most manufacturers advertise, as he bench tests batteries for real life use for a living.

The industry standard for amp (current) ratings is the CDR (continuous discharge rate). Some vendors will advertise "pulse" ratings which are higher than that, but in reality pulse ratings are useless. Pay attention only to the continuous discharge rating.

The iStick Pico is a regulated mod, so the coil resistance is a moot point. Any legitimate name brand 20 amp CDR battery will do for up to 60 watts. Stick with a battery made by AW, Lg, Samsung, or Sony and you won't need to worry about false battery ratings.

The Samsung 25R is still considered a great battery. However, next time you buy new batteries, consider the Samsung 30Q or Lg HG2. Both have a few hundred more mAh capacity with the same 20A continuous rating of the 25R.

I use LG HG2's and Samsung 30Q's in my PICO. The 30Q's last a bit longer but both are excellent batteries. Just be careful if you buy the LG's. There are a lot of counterfeits going around. Pretty sure you can get both of those for $6 each from illumn.com and if you buy in pairs they'll come in a case.

Baditude - thanks the such a complete answer and especially for the safety tip; I had noticed that and have ordered some heat shrink but kind of you to point it out. I'll read through the rest but think I'm nearly there.

I think it's the pico's bypass mode that may have confused me on the regulated/ unregulated side but I'll do some more reading into that. May have just read a bad review.

Who_Dey_1991 - Similarly, thanks for coming back to me and that's really helpful.

I'm in the UK so will need to find some trusted suppliers over here. This place doesn't seem like a bad place to find them.

Cheers all, see you around on here.

Batteries are not hard to find in the UK.
I use both Ecolux and Torchy.
I noticed the name Liberty Flights earlier in this thread..... (shudder in fear...) batteries are up to 80% more expensive from the dreadful brand stores. UKecig, Liberty... just forget it... even with their massive discounts to facebook friends (give me a bucket) they don't sell anything without jacking the prices.

Thanks for that guys. Muchly appreciated.

I'll look through the other threads on suppliers and start one on that if needed. Don't think the 2ml Melo 3 is going to suit me brilliantly but handy to have as I have a habit of breaking tanks.

And on liberty- I dropped them a note about the battery being mis-labelled, just as friendly advice on customer service.

Anyway, glad I found this place. Thanks for coming to the rescue to quickly and kindly.
