Hello there! In my previous thread I talked about building myself a USB passthrough strong enough to handle RDA like a beast. But then someone mentioned the dna 30D so I went that way.

Now I am thinking of building a box mod and I am so confused... So I've been thinking of building the dna 30 make enough research to understand almost everything that I need to know but then I see the Raptor. Holy moly what a beast! 120W 20A! But there are two problems... Where can I get the Naos Raptor chip without waiting ages and is it safe enough? I've been reading posts that say about the batteries overdrain and explode.

If you know the answers to my questions or if you know any other amazing box mods please tell me I would appreciate it a lot! :)

Look to Mamu's Raptor 120 Watt thread in the mods section HERE. She has a schematic posted and uses a zener diode in the input circuit to prevent over drain.

As to where you can get the board, Mouser has some coming in in late July, but if you want it now you're out of luck, unless you want to pay a heavily marked up price on eBay.

Ive been seriously considering doing tthe DNA30 build myself..
also considering doing the NOS Raptor chip build if the DNA 30 is relatively successful.

Id jump on the DNa 30 will be very much worth it.
just my 2 cents.

I think you're probably good with the DNA 30. 120 watts seems like total overkill

Garym93 and CloudsinCrowds: Yeah, maybe I should go for the DNA 30 first and if it goes well I'll probably consider the Raptor.

Mark-in-dallas: Thanks for the information! It was really helpful :)

Thank you everyone for everything!

Wish I could make my own! Money is tight so I went with the DNA 20 because it was a lot less yet still goes to 20 watts. I got a Hanna Mod DNA 20. It hasn't arrived yet so I'm not sure how good it is. I know if I had the ability to make my own, I would absolutely do it! I'm hands on like that but wouldn't know where to even start! Good luck with your builds. Hope it all works out for you.

Personal opinion of course, but why build in what you will never need or use?

If you want, there are regulators out there that will handle 1,000 watts ... but why would you want to?
There simply is no need of enough power to light up a city when all we want to do is heat a little coil.
There's a nice transformer sitting in my front yard ... wonder if it has enough umph.

love watching cloud chasers get out their little ce4's when they think no one is watching

Agreed, i think it's human nature to want the be all end all , i bet most who have these ridiculously powerful mods will never use anywhere close to what they are capable of but will be paying more for it despite that fact.

I see many beginning surfcaster's with reels that cost $1,200 that put out 50 pounds of drag but they admit they will never need anything over 15.

realsis: Thank you very much :) I will try to show you some pictures of it when I'm finished building it!

tj99959: haha, I love how you combined humour and facts. :p

herb: That's why I'm going with the box mod because it's cheap and it's powerful! :)
