there is no way to know what will be the best mg strength for you. 18 is a fairly common starting strength for someone that smoked a pad but there is no definitive mg as we are all so different in what we need to stop using analogs.

Best advise I can give is to get some of both. Many that vape find they use a higher mg when vaping in short sessions and use a lower mg when they are chain vaping. Chain vaping is pretty common for those new to e-cigs, especially when first getting off analogs. Good Luck!!!

I agree with Nightseer...get a little of both (but more of the 18mg than the 14mg). You smoke less than what I did (@ 1-1/2 pks/day...45 years), and I've been totally analog-free for two months now with 18mg. However, a friend of mine who only smoked @ 1/2 pad is still doing the AM analog, even with 18mg the rest of the time. Everyone is different, so be prepared. It'll also help once you find a flavor you love, and prefer over analogs. Mine is Espresso-flavors. Good luck.

I knew this would be a long road, so I bought the 24mg to start. Going to use them for a while, then slowly progress my way down the line. This is a nice change already, so your lung function and taste sensation will improve regardless of the strength. I plan on going down over the course of 12-24 months from 24mg to zero.

I agree with the previous posters, it may be a good idea to get a 12mg and 24mg so that you can do a little modifying as you go. The first few days it will help to have a big hitting 24mg to get you through.

I smoked Blue camels, around half a pack a day, but never less and sometimes closer to 1 pack for around 8 years.

I just recieved my Tornado tank this morning, and i feel almost high from my 12-16mg prefilled cartridges(Mid. strength from Totally wicked). The throat-hit is insane and next time i order liquid i will buy som low strength liquids, thats for sure!

...which takes me to my point, i thought i needed around 18 atleast, but man, apparently not!=)

FWIW, I smoked American Spirit handrolls, maybe 5-10 a day depending on various things. I found that 6 mg was plenty, but 12 mg (accidentally ordered) wasn't much different.
Originally I bought some 24mg and 36mg and found that I was buzzing. I also didn't like the flavors, so they are just sitting for now. If I change my mind on the flavors or feel like I can mix with other flavors I will definitely dilute them before trying again.

As far as I can tell, there are generalities, but it seems like most people have to experiment to figure out what they need.

Best of luck.

There are many on this site that regularly use 36mg nic. strength. I do believe based on all the posts on this site and my own personal experience, the better battery devices such as a good 5 volt PV or a good variable volt PV will much more easily allow you to lower you nic level because the vapor is much warmer with 5 volt/VV PV's.

My Mom, a 60 year smoker started out at 36 and she's already down to 18 and 12.

I started with 24 mg and still use 24. I'm happy where I am and not really concerned about lowering it at this point. Ask me in 6 months. :)

If I started out lower it definitely wouldn't cut it. Better to start a little higher so you don't crave the analogs. I really never did at all.
