Which RDA did you use to learn coil building?

I'm struggling to find any definitive answers here, but I suppose people find different platforms easier than others!

Im wanting to experiment with 28AWG Kanthal and probably cotton. I've heard the Trident and it's better clones are quite easy to start on, and mixed opinions on the ease of working with Kayfuns. The only thing personally I don't like about the Kayfuns is the plastic tank, but appreciate that it can be swapped out for Stainless.

Ideally I'm looking for a good sized platform (preferably up to 22mm total diameter), quality easy to work with posts, and little hassle.

I wouldn't say money is no object, but I don't mind paying for quality. I'm not the type to pay 50% more because it's good plated. I wouldn't normally go for a clone, but I know some are very well made at a fair price.

My first RBA was an AGA-T2, which was a bear (genesis attys aren't beginner friendly, IMHO), but I honed my techniques on a couple of IGO-W's that are still in rotation. I've got a few different kayfun style attys (a few kayfun Lite Plus clones, a Russian 91%, a Fogger and an Aqua clone) and with the exception of the Fogger and Aqua, they are absolutely easy as pie to build on. The Fogger can be a pain thanks to the deck design, and the Aqua is a dual-coil which is just more of a challenge. All the kayfun-style attys are my everyday, reliable, go-to, take-out-of-the-house attys. Once you get a good build on them, they're zero effort.

Apparently I have an "ooh shiny" issue. :p

I have the same affliction, like a magpie :D Glad you told me about the fogger, I have looked at that. The IGO-W looks pretty good! If a little plain on the outside. Maybe I am a fancy shiny addict!

For a Genesis style atty, I would recommend an RSST. It has an insulated wick hole into the tank making it a more straightforward build if you want to go with a stainless wick. I wicked mine with silica and it was pretty easy to learn on.

I would not recommend that approach though. I have limited experience with a range of RBAs, but the Kayfun style atty is a piece of cake. Set aside a day and have a decent amount of 28g Kanthal and a cotton ball or 2 and learn your build. It is very easy to do with a little practice and for the effort and price easily delivers what I consider the biggest bang for the buck right now.

Other people will certainly steer you in different directions, but this is what worked for me in my limited experience.

Got to admit the KF does still tempt me. There's just so many people that love it

I'm vaping on my first RDA right now. It's an igo w. 17 bucks is what I paid for it at a local b&m. You can get it online for like 23 plus tax. It's got a nice big deck, a good lip to hold any over dripping. The chamber in the cap seems like just the right size to me.

The only drawback I've found with it so far is that the cap comes stock with miniature air holes. I opened one up to 1.6 mm and have another cap on the way I'll open up both holes on for dual coil builds. I really couldn't recommend it more as a first rda to get used to coil builds..

I am planning on getting a couple more rebuildables including a genesis of some kind already, I've only been using this IGO for a little over a week, I think it'll stay in my rotation, I'd just like to play with some other cool stuff now that I know I can.

I've sold all mine off, except for one KfL that I rarely use. I fooled around with them for a while; but I just kept going back to my mesh gennys and drippers. Kayfuns are nice, easy to set up, and don't leak. But for me, they just don't compare to the flavor and vapor I get from the genisis types and RDAs.

The more I look at the IGO-W, the more I think I'll add it to the collection regardless of anything else I get. Certainly worth a try at that price!

quite easy to set one up and get a seriously tastey vape. Got mine, came home.. watched one youtube video just to make sure I had things down and had it chucking pretty good vapor 10 minutes later.. That was my first build.

You will love the IGO W. For that matter most of the IGO line is pretty great. YouDe makes some solid stuff at great prices.

My goodness! You sold something? LOL I've got several kfls and am finding that while the flavor is good.. I like the flavor I get with the RM2 on my Reo's a bit better.

I learned how to build coils on my HCigar Kayfun 3.1....that then prompted me to go buy an authentic KFL+.....I then moved onto several different RDA's and have lately been really into Genny's....I still think the Kayfun or its clones are the easiest/best thing to learn on and the results are very rewarding!!
