Is it true that I am likely to need an adapter whether I go 901 or 510? I have a mix of 808 cartos, prefer to keep using them if it is reasonably doable (i know the voltage hit may make this tough).
Assuming I would need an adapter, any advantage to the 901 vs the 510? Does one connector have better cartos available natively?

If it were me, I'd get a 510 and a 510 to kr8 adapter. I like my 901s but they don't accept the newer designs of cartos marketed as cool, turbo, gold, etc. (caveat: someone said they do, but it takes a lot of force in putting them on to make them work. I don't have that kind of umph.
) The mega kr8s sold elsewhere, ce2s and kanger type designs do work well though. Basically the farther away from the 901 atty bottom design the carto gets, the less likely it's going to work on the 901 Riva. Cartos can also be more "airy" on a 901 than they are on kr8 equipment or on a 510 Riva with adapter. Most 510 to kr8 adapters have an adjustable draw. (Screw type slot in the center of the carto side, counter clockwise for lighter draw.)
