Whistling Reo

Hey guys,

I've got my RM2 cap drilled to 3/32 and my coil is raised a bit for TH and is directly centered with my coil.

What would be causing the whistle? If I cover the hole a bit with my finger, it goes away. Could my air hole not be drilled all the way and theres a shard or something causing it?

try hitting the outside of the hole with a much larger drill bit to just put a slight bevel around the edge, you should do this by hand. also check the inside of the RM2 for burs around the hole.

Thanks...just looked and its no uneven, lol.

Outside looks fine, inside...not so much!

the bevel or counter sinking of the hole might change airflow enough to kill the whistle.

I think I will take the same size bit when I get home and just try to smooth out the edges, we'll see how it goes.

I really want to be careful and not go any bigger or mess up the threads.

take a 1/8 bit with your fingers and put a slight bevel on the outside of the hole.

Straight hole no bevel.

Bevel, took 30 seconds holding drill bit in fingers.

if the answer is yes then its amusing, if the answer is no... well... you might have to be worried, especially if she did not appear to be offended... lol...

going to liven up this thread..

my brass RM2, all stock, is whistling.. I'd rather it didn't.. base is tight enough, cap is on right.. all looks right with the threads.. only been going on a few days, and I can't figure it out. not very loud, but high pitched and annoying!

Have you tried putting a bevel on the hole with a much larger drill bit, you can do it by hand. Also make sure there are no burns on the inside part of the hole. Since I beveled mine the wife no longer complains about the whistle.

I have many different sized screwdrivers..

Try a phillips just turning it in the air hole while applying pressure so it shaves a slight bevel on the edge. I just tried it with the small one I use on post screws and it works but will be slower than a drill bit.

The smaller phillips will be less likely to slip, a larger one will create more of a bevel.

that would be nice, actually.. but the brass is on my woodie, gets too hot to use a metal shorty, which is all I have other than the drip tip that came with the RM2.
