Suppliers, can you help out a fellow who is trying to break into the supplying biz?

I dont know if its trade secrets and I could understand if I get no replies as it is competition but I was wondering what company you guys use to process CC payments online?

Most places I have gone to restrict transactions for tobacco products, smoking mixtures or tobacco substitutes.

I already know Paypal has a problem with it so where do you guys go?
Do you pay a monthly fee? Do you pay a per transaction fee? Is there a long wait to get your payments? Is it directly deposited into an acct?

Any help would be appreciated and I also understand if this thread gets flamed or no replies at all. Figured it cant hurt to ask.

THanks

Ragman

My husband and I run an internet business selling knives. We use paypal (as long as we do not sell anything they don't approve of) They carge 2.3% of total sales as long as the sales per month does not fall below $l0,000. We reviewed several companies other than pay pal to use. What we looked for was.

Percent per transcation which ranges from l.75% to 2.4% of sales, plus 25-35 cents per transaction plus 5.-10 cents for address vertication.
Then you have the chore or finding a credit card processing company that provides you with all the features you need for your company. This is just as important as costs because you definitely do not want to pay a lot for credit card processing if the company cannot meet your needs.

Some features to look for, that you may or may not need, includes:

Payment Gateway
  • Virtual Terminal
  • Merchant Account
  • How many days the payments clear
  • e-Check services
  • Point of Sale Swiper
  • Recurring Billing
  • Shopping Cart

You will then want to look at how the credit card processing company protects your business. Some features you will definitely want from any company includes:
  • Fraud Protection
  • CVV2 Acceptance
  • Real Time Processing
  • Address Verification
  • SSL
Most companies will set you up for free but some charge a sizable fee. The company you chose will provide you with a check out for you internet sales. There are too many of them out-there to even suggest. You can find a rating of different companies on the internet.

I still think pay pal is one of the best. They offer one of the most protected processing available. You can also download all of your accounts to Quick Book if you use this for you business.

As far as keeping up with inventory for you business we found they were either too expensive or different fit our needs. My son is a lawyer who also has extensive computer knowledge and he wrote our inventory program.

If you can do you own computer work setting up you website you will save a lot of money this way or at least my husband did.

Check w/ your personal bank and see what they have available for merchant accounts... With most if you have a business account open (just open as a business account w/ minmum deposit required and maintained) you can get merchant account set up for cc payments, an actual machine if needed, and internet processing for a smaller fee than most... If you get a quote from them that is higher than an outside processing company, let them know- they will usually still try and beat it to keep your business w/in the bank...
Mine is with Wachovia- I am not a supplier of e-cig merchandise though- mine is for my craft business and I have not been active the last four years due to my main job but am starting back up... My account has stayed open because I kept my minimum balance constant (Minimum is not much and we have used it as a savings while I worked to keep it there) Other benefits from the bank are included too-
Just a suggestion to look into-

If you are still looking, PM me and I'll give you info on my processor. I had been shopping for months when PP shut me down and went with the best one I had found (out of over 100 checked). Had me up and running in less than 2 days, at an ACTUAL 2.4 + .20 rate with no reserve requirments, and the funds are in my account in 1-2 days. Large Canadian company with very professional service. And they have no problems doing e-cigs.
