I am new to vaping, just got a kgo 1100mah with juices that are 36 mg nic (which I think is just fine), the mix is vg 30 and pg 70. I got a few bottles with this percentage mix. It is very very strong on my throat, I can't even inhale it after holding it in my mouth a few seconds. I have tried to take a smaller puff, but it's still too strong. I would really like less throat hit and more vapor, I also don't like the flavors but I enjoy smelling them in the air after vaping, lol. Do vendors sell juice without flavors? I mean just nic and vg/pg?

I have tried to look through the threads for knowledge on what percentage of pg/vg I should use for less throat hit and more vapor, but I am lost. I'm not sure how to find certain things that I"m looking for in these threads.

I have tried two different types of cartos and they both are too strong, (or is it the pg/vg mixture?)

smoktech xl singlecoil 510 & the Boge LR 2.0 ohm

The silver boge's are worse on my throat then the smoktech.

Anyhow, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated or if you could drop me a link to the right threads so I can try to figure out what I am doing wrong,, thank you so much!

What am I doing wrong??

Hi rajani, I was a hard-core RYO non-filter smoker for many years and 36 mg seems insanely high to me! What have you been smoking up until now?

I've been happy with 24 mg, tried some 30 mg juices and the TH is harsh and also seems to mute some of the flavor. On my next order I'm getting some lower nic juices to mix with the high-test stuff.

I'm too new to be an expert of the PG/VG ratios...I think PG gives more of a hit and many people seem to like a 50/50 mix. I'm sure you'll get more knowledgeable and detailed advice in short order.

Nic content has a lot to do with the throat hit and pg emphasizes it and vg will tend to mute it. You can do a couple of things 1 increase the vg in the ratio, 2 lower the nic or 3 a combination of both. Vg also provides more vapor, so if your looking for more vapor i would recommend getting a juice with a higher ratio of vg. Be aware though that vg is thicker and if you using a punched carto in a tank then you may have to play with the size hole to get the juice delivery right.

I'm not familiar with the KGO, but is there a way to maybe lower the voltage a bit?
No, the Kgo is not a VV device. It is similar to an Ego and vapes at around 3.7v

Here's my newbee stab at this...I'm wondering if going to a standard resistance cartomizer might help. I ran into a similar situationwith too much throat hit and have some standard resistance stuff on order to see how I like it.

It is not at all unusual for new vapors to find the hit quite harsh . As previous posters have stated , nic content and pg % contribute to throat hit. As Harplayr pointed out , lower resistance atomizer/cartomizers make for a warmer vapor which further exacerbates the issue.
Some people are allergic to pg . This may or may not be an issue for you. I'd suggest going to Walmart or the pharmacy and purchase a bottle of glycerin. About $4. Also get a dropper from a cake making store or maybe Walmart has them too.
In a small jar or clean soda cap, using the dropper try 4 drops of your juice and 1 drops glycerin. Stir that with a toothpick and try dripping a few drops on an atomizer that came with your KGO if you have one .
This will mute the flavor a little and increase the pg /vg content of that small sample by 25% more vg giving you 45% pg/55%vg and the nic level to just under 29mg . Should produce more vapor and smoother th.
If you like the results , order future juices at 50/50 pg/vg ratio.
Also , after having been vaping for a little over a year , I still enjoy the occasional 36mg/ml juice. Its high , but do what you have to do to get off stinkies. And vendors do sell unflavored juice FYI.

Fresh off the charger they start at around 4.2 and then trickle down as you use it down to about 3.4 volts. What you can do, which is a good point, is try a higher resistance attomiser/cartomizer/clearomiser.

You can't lower the voltage, but you can get the same effect by raising your resistance (ohms).
The end result of voltage and resistance is Watts and watts are what determine how warm the vapor is.
More watts = more heat. Less watts = less heat.

Volts x volts / ohms = Watts.

If you raise your ohms (resistance), you'll get fewer watts.
That does the same thing as keeping the same ohms and lowering your volts.

So, if you've been using 2ohms and need something not as hot, go up to 2.5 or 3ohms.

Thank all of you so much for the great advice. I certainly will be making some changes to see what works.

I have another question about one of my batteries and was not sure if I should post it in here first or not?

I just tried the other battery this morning for the first time and thought both cartos were DOA but when I put the cartos back on the first battery, they both worked. So did I get a brand new battery that is DOA? The light works just fine on the battery.

Today I picked up a dropper and Glycerin usp. I am going to try your suggestion, but can I do this with a carto? I don't have or know what an atomizer is.

I have no idea where I'm at
I am vaping 36mg nic with no problems. I used to use a 50/50, but since I DIY, I mix close to 95%VG. The VG helps smooth it out. You could also just be having a reaction to the PG as some do. If you find that after increasing your VG that it is too thick, then add some DW to thin. Also, use a standard resistance cart. You might want to try a CE-3 that is a bottom feeder and the distance from the coil means a really mellow TH. PGA or vodka will only increase the TH. Also, you should use a drip tip, that will distance you from the heat of the coil and that will help too. Combined, all this should solve your problem.

Last note: liquid plays a big role, acidic and harsh flavors can increase TH and irritation. Stay away from cinnamon or just tobacco (not all) as they can be really harsh. You might just have to work up to TH, that after a time will lessen anyway.

Hope this helps

Saludos

Are you sure that the carto is making contact with your new battery? Is the positive connector slightly more recessed on the new battery maybe?

Don't know what the veterans might say about this but this is what I did as a newbie:
Bought the kgo + Boge LR 2.0 cartomizers. Decided on some 18 mg & 24 mg ejuice. Then after reading lots of stuff on ECF about some folks having reactions to the pg, I decided to order only 100% vg to start my journey. Then the next order, I ordered 20%pg/80%vg. I'm seeing how that suits me. So far no reaction. I'm just taking some baby steps & I'm enjoying my vape.
Keep comin back.
Bullette says woof.
