I now have my Vapourlites e-cig (liquid version) and wondering what I am doing wrong. When I inhale, I almost choke and break out into a spasm of coughing. Surely this is not right. Is there a right and a wrong way to vape?

Sounds like you may be trying to lung inhale, that's not neccessary :)

Just draw the vape into your mouth and exhale through your nose ... see if that helps.

Did you just just switch to vaping? I had the same problem, your lungs are ...... at you right now, your cilia are growing back. it should go away, it takes some time for your body to get used to the new nicotine delivery system. Cut your nic back to 12mg or lower if you can, that should help.

    Yes!

Yes there is a slightly different technique to vaping. I tried to hunt around but couldn't find you a link but I'm sure someone will.

Sorry can't be more helpful so let me just add hello and welcome to the ECF family. When I first started vaping I actually 'practiced' getting the technique right using 0%mg because I nearly choked myself trying to vape. Once I got the technique right I was fine with 24mg juice and never had a cigarette since then.

    Happy vaping. :)

I'd second at pulling the vapor into your mouth, then if you want inhaling some as as was said most of the nicotine gets absorbed in the mouth and you can get as much throat-hit as you want that way. I'd also second that if you've been doing it a bit your body will start to go through some changes, but they all end well (worth a google), but would also add that not all flavorings are the same, nor mixes. If changing how you inhale doesn't help, try switching flavors, then look at lowering the PG ratio in your eliquid.

I was smoking it like I would a normal cig with a lung hit, so that is what I was doing wrong. Will try the way suggested. I really, really, need to do this as I had a docs appointment today for a really bad cough following flu and seems I now have chronic bronchitis. I start on two different types of inhalers tomorrow and want to get this vaping right so I can kick the normal cigs. Thanks for all your help. I may well be back and forth on here with questions and maybe just chat..

Your situation sounds a lot like mine, except I didn't get the flu first--years of smoking cigarettes was enough to do it to me. Based on my experience, you will continue to cough as lot as you continue to smoke cigarettes, even if just a couple a day. Even if you toss all the cigarettes, I am certain you will need that inhaler at least for a while. But, the hope is that one day you will find that you don't need the inhaler, and are able to happily vape in peace.

Smoking an analog means you are inhaling hot, dry combusted smoke. Vaping means you are inhaling warm, moist, flavored liquid. When I started, my lungs rejected the vapor because it was too moist - they thought it was water, therefore I needed to cough it out. It took a while to slowly re-train my lungs to accept the moist vapor instead of dry smoke. I found smaller, shallow inhales to help. Not the full type I was used to with smoke.

I am thinking that whatever I inhale now will make me cough until I get used to it. I started on my first inhaler this morning, followed the instructions and had a fit of coughing. It may take me a while to get used to the e-cig, but I will persevere. I agree jhy78 that it is my medical problem that is causing my lungs to be weak. I had chest x-rays a couple of weeks ago and although they show that my lungs are clear, my left lung is partially collapsed. I have had a cough for over two years now and the doc has told me that basically I now have chronic bronchitis with is classed as COPD.

So, lighter hits and perseverance. If millions of others can do it, then no reason why I shouldn't be able to do it too.

Thank you everyone for your advice and support. xxx
