Why are clones so prevalent in the vaping world (or does it just seem so?)

I'm sure this question has been answered/discussed/beat-to-death, but I can't find an answer to why cloning is so rampant in the vaping world. Do the makers of these devices not have the right to trademark their creations to be protected for at least a brief time? Is it price wherein they can and are being made cheaper? Or are the "cloners" not held responsible for the same trademark laws as others due to location? And why does it seem so rampant in this particular industry?

And most importantly, should I feel bad for purchaing a clone?

Thanks for helping a noob with his silly curiosities.

from what i understand, most (org)companies do not even pay for trademarks - make limited runs (100-500 batch) - and over price the item 100 fold.

there are thousands of vapors, and for just the reason of limited runs, alot of people look to clones. the price is just another good reason.

the trademark issue is different for each "company" as some of the modders are just average joe people trying to make a buck

A lot of modders are trademarking their logos, but it's hopeless for them to prosecute a Chinese company (instead some are going after resellers in their home countries).

Is it price wherein they can and are being made cheaper?

China is very good at mass producing items cheaper than others. Stealing designs, using inferior materials, foregoing quality control, and using child laborers also helps to reduce their cost.

Or are the "cloners" not held responsible for the same trademark laws as others due to location?

It's illegal and the cloners know it, they're just untouchable.

And why does it seem so rampant in this particular industry?

Good question. Without demand there would be no supply...

And most importantly, should I feel bad for purchaing a clone?

Lots of people purchase clones, and for the most part only care about price, so you wouldn't be alone. It's a personal choice. I do what I want and what I feel is right and I try not to comment on or criticize others for their choices.

Why buy from Walmart instead of the 100 year-old corner market?

Sorry I have to leave most Authentics to the Upper 1% of the income group. Clone from China $20, the original $100+. Lets see.. For the price of 1 REAL item I can get a mod for each day of the week. Or a tank for each flavor in the rotation. Take say a Kayfun Style tank, $15 fastech Clone, Vs $100 for USA or Russian or German Clone vs IDK for the original. If such a thing exsists.

Well copying is fine IMO, but using logos ect needs to be stopped

If the design isn't protected it's not stealing, they use materials suitable not always inferior, their QC is as good if not better than other countries (one word Evolv) child labour is a good thing as it stops them begging stealing or turning to protistution, want to stop child labour come up with a good solution as simply banning it is actually a very bad thing.

Most of the time no as they don't cover themselves!

The problems I see with clones are they use logos which is just wrong and if you buy one you need to be careful because some are really badly built, but then some are better than the original although in most countries you have less protection buying a clone.

I would be nice to see a list of manufactures and those making the orders that ever paid Hon Lik. Even if some other guys are copying "their" trade mark I couldn't give a .... when they are thieves themselves. As far as the flashlight tubes, who cares. Besides, it is not part of my job description to protect their claimed rights to something.

That said, I have two cloned AeroTanks and they are not as good as the authentic. In that case the price difference is negligible, 8 bucks instead of 15 maybe. I bought an un verifiable Kanger Mega that is flawless.

Hate to say it but the thing I like about clones is not that they are less expensive, it is how excitable people get over the subject. In most cases it is thieves stealing from thieves and dipsticks looking for something to make themselves feel better than others.
