Why are my RBA/Genesis seem to be firing slowly? Not instantly? Is this normal?

Hello! I am new to the Genesis style rba styles and had a question.

I am still learning with my AGA-T plus and my SMOKTech RSST.

I am using both my Silver Bullet w a 18650 ( sometimes with and without a kick ) and also a Provari.

I am using 32g wire and also various sized SS mesh.

I seem to have everything right and the taste is ALMOST perfect but i seem to keep having a problem. It almost seems like i need to hold down the button ( on either device and either setup ) for a second or so to get the coil going so that i start getting a lot of vapor.

Unlike video i have seen or for instance using my ProTank, These RBAs do not seem to be hitting the right Temp/voltage/power the minute i hit the button? I am not sure how to explain it really but it just seems like when i vape off one of my rba, I have to hold the button down for some time, and inhale/exhale 2-3 big drags and THEN i get tons of vape. If i vape say my ProTank or something that is NON rba, I simply fire the button, take my usual 1 drag and i have tons of vapor.

It almost seems like the RBA needs a little time to reach the set voltage/power or something?

I have used them on both the SB and Provari and i have used anywhere from a 1.6ohm to a 2.0 ohm and various power from 3.7 on the SB to a 4.6 on the Provari.

I am just curious if this is normal? If not, What things can i check/adjust?

I was watching a few video on building and the minute they fire the button, there setups seem to instantly start pouring out tons of vapor.

oh and the air hole is directly in front of the wick on both setups

Any help would be great, thanks.

Most likely a heat-sink effect from the coil on the wick. Having to take several drags to start good vapor definitely points to that.

Everything else sounds okay: 32g wire at 1.6ohms and 3.7V is 8.55 watts; at 4.6V it's 13.25 watts. So you're certainly not under-powering the coil.

And 32g heats about as quickly as you want on a genesis. Any thinner is too easy to pop the coil.

Roll a coil around a drill bit (the petar k. method; google it) and attach it to the atomizer without a wick. You'll see that at the resistance and voltage you mentioned the coil will light almost instantly.

The wick absorbs the heat energy off the coil and it takes longer to reach good vaping temperature. But you should be vaping fine at 13 watts. Re-examine your wick rolling (solid wicks are better heat-sinks than straw-style wicks), tightness of your coils on the wick (they should just 'lay' on the wick, not choke it), and read/watch genesis setup tutorials.

Hi,

Most 1.5ohm and above seems needs a bit of time to fire. It might be down to 2 things. Firstly for myself, I set up my rba (Aga-t) and a much lower ohm, say around 0.6-0.8 ohms and I use a 28G kanthal or ribbon sometimes. This get the coils to light up pretty quickly and hot, don't know if this set up suits you. By the way im using a mech mod with copper pins and soon to be upgraded with pure silver pins which most says gives the best firing, instant glow, instant heat. And on my dripper, its much lower between 0.3 - 0.5 ohms (dual coils). I know most advice is not to vape at lowish ohms but been doing in for the past 6 months and nothing happened yet (knock wood).

Secondly, as a mech mod user, an unprotected IMR battery is recommended which produces more output than protected ICR. But on vv/vw devices it doesn't really matter from what I was told.

Maybe try to up your volt/watt on the mod or try another or several tanks if your friends have em. Just to eliminate whether you have to tinkle with the tank setup or with the mod itself. Hope this helps.

You need a mechanical mod and build a coil with 30 or 28 awg wire. the perfect resistance (for me) is 1.1 to 1.2 ohm for Provari and 0.6 for mech. this will gives you a almost instant hit on Provari and certainly instant hit on a mechanical mod. When 32 awg wire works, the result is not that great. (It did still give me the Wow effect when my 1st genny atty built with 32 awg wire).

The SB is basically a mechanical device. I have some pretty thin wire, its annoying because its so high in resistance that I can barely go above 2 wraps before I hit 2ohms. What gauge should I pick up? And what gauge would everyone recommend for OP? It seems like a thinner wire would heat up more quickly, but thicker wire is higher resistance which helps with surface area vaporization.

I think i am going to try some thinner wire. So far all i have been using is thicker wire so maybe that is the issue? I mean it hits "ok" but you have to lay on the switch for a good 3 puffs ( not 3 separate hits of the switch, i mean like a longggg 3 puff drag ) almost like i said, It needs time to reach its full temperature or something. So maybe a thinner wire would heat more instantly. Though ohm may be lower. I will give it a try.

Thanks for the tips!
