Why are reos so much ? How fast do they burn through juice ? What about Monkeyboxx ?

@adam - No doubt my friend! I do not even slightly believe in the slightest that there are many, if any at all, that can compare when it comes to durability of the Reo! That was never the issue, not for me anyways. As I had said, if you found the sweet spot for yourself and you've no need for VV, then that's fantastic! Truly it is, and I envy you! I wish it were as simple for me and the juices I use throughout the day.

I've found that most, if not all of the juices I use, I use at some of the oddest voltages. Depending of course on the atty/carto used. I've even went through to check the power I am boiling these juices at to see if VV is indeed "overkill" but I've come to the conclusion, that if I wanted to replicate most of these wattages, I would have to acquire multiple variations of resistanced atomizers and cartomizers I.E. 1.5,1.8,2.0,2.3ohm etc etc. And I try new juice quite often as well, what a chore right? Well, not if I have access to adjusting the voltage ;)

Like I had said, VV isn't needed for everyone! Not in the least. But, the OP was asking why the Reo costed so much(though I agree that the price is quite reasonable ;) ) and added in his title, why not a MonkeyBoxx? I am just speaking up for the MonkeyBoxx and what it might be able to offer that the Reo cannot.

@MV - that's really cool, though, wouldn't that take away from the Reo trademark of being a completely mechanical device? Or is there a way to alter voltage mechanically that I do not know of yet!? That would be AMAZING! :D

Also, no offense once again, I think it's kind of funny of how your guy's posts kind of contradict one another. One says he loves the simplicity of not have VV, the other says VV might be coming. Perhaps I am the only one who finds humor in it?

There are two different types of REO, all mechanical aluminum and a wired wood. I'm certain that the VV will be a wood mod. Of course they all share an incredible attention to detail, design, craftmanship, and support.

Adding...I wash out my Minis about once a week, not because it leaks (it doesn't) but because I like to be tidy and get off any finger grime, juice, etc. It's really more of a rinse under running water and a towel dry :)

ETA to your edit: Just curious, why would you need to wash your mod? Does it leak on the inside? Please, take no offense to that question, I am just truly curious?

I also wanted to ask, are the Reos regulated? Or does the voltage decrease as the battery life decreases?

I've never had a leak, although I have occasionally messed up and smeared juice on most of my mods. I know of one owner who, being a pilot, experienced some juice leakage due to atmospheric pressure changes that he didn't anticipate (who would?). Either might be a reason for thorough cleaning.

I'm not aware of any regulated voltage mods that can be washed, but I supposed if it were filled with epoxy or something, it's possible :)

The original point though, was why they're so "expensive", and I hate to derail the thread, so 'nuff said.

Thank you for adding your $.02 Levitas. That's really cool to hear the perspective from a VV guy. Now I understand why all the VV folks are as bad as us REO folks. :)

Back in the old days you'd never see discussion boards filled with Marlboro vs. Camel debates....progress!

For me it's all about consistency because I'm very fresh off analogs- so I stick to the same juice and gear all the time, so that if I feel something a bit odd- tired, dehydrated, etc I'm not apt to blame the vaping experience because I know what I've been doing is working for me.

It lets me enjoy and experience all the benefits of the switch. Maybe that doesn't quite make sense to everyone, but this is the longest I've ever gone without a cigarette. I smoked every single day for over 17 years in varying amounts, but generally at least a pack a day. I tried to quit for a couple of months one time, but even then I'd wake up and cry without an analog in the morning. Literally cry- and I'm not a crier. Now I wake up and feel free. Mornings are nearly joyful, and it's the happiest I've been in years.

I'm glad you found something you love and that works for you :)

To answer your other question...they don't leak. I just usually manage to spill a drop or two when I'm filling the bottle, so I have to clean it a little. Plus it's my baby, and I like showing it off, so I keep it polished to pristine perfection.

You can feel it when the battery starts to weaken- I'm using Trustfires instead of the recommended IMR's, so I'm feeling it more than most folks. It's not that big of a deal- I just take it as a sign to change the battery.

Right on, it isn't for me to make a decision as I (like you kind folk) am only trying to let the OP see it from all perspectives so that he/she can make an educated, and well informed decision. :D

If I were to make a possible Pro/Con list of both devices, I would probably put it together something like this?

Reo Grand/Mini
Pros
Cost effective (less expensive than the MonkeyBoxx VV)
Durable (more so than the MB VV)
All mechanical (no wires, less chance of something "going wrong")
Not as bulky (MB VV is about twice the thickness of a Reo Grand)
Customization (door color and body color, right?)
Appeal (if you like the Metal look)

Cons
Not regulated (voltage drops as battery life decreases)
No Variable Voltage (have to own/swap batteries to change from 3.7v-6v. Might have to purchase numerous atomizer/cartomizers to find the "sweet spot" for each juice)

MonkeyBoxx VV
Pros
Variable Voltage
Regulated Voltage
Customizable (choose body wood type, top & bottom end wood type, catch cup color, custom laser engraving)
Appeal (if you like Wood look)

Cons
Durability (less durable than the Reo grand/mini)
Non-mechanical (more chances of something "going wrong")
Bulky (about twice the thickness of a grand)
Price (about $50 more than a Reo)

Both companies have exceptional customer service, both are bottom feeders. I am sure there's probably something from both mods I am leaving out, but, I am just naming some of the key points that I've found in either one. If I am mistaken in any of these points, please let me know. I am really only trying to help the OP make an informed decision based on their needs/wants so that they're ultimately happy with their purchase :)

I'd take "fingerprints" off of the con list for REO's. That is only an issue with the polished/polished finish, which isn't being made anymore.

Took it off, though the OP might procure a 'used' one that might still have that particular finish. None the less, I really only added it because of some of the responses I got thus far :)

gotta admit, im interested in a vv as well for home usage.

i looked at the monkeyboxx jus now and it does look nice, but as u stated, it does look rather bulky and im not feelin the wires.

i know rob said hes actually messin with the vv atm...so rob if ur reading this.. make it the size of a grand/woodville pls ;D i honestly think if rob can make a vv with no wires, thatd be a sure fire hit.

also can u drip on the monkeyboxx too? the fact that i can drip (because atm i constantly switch flavors) whenever i want to was what sealed the deal for me in picking a reo

edit: jus watched another review..looks as big as a woodville so i take that back

I still fine it odd, even after all these thousands spent on this hobby, why people freak out over $200 for a mod. I never once, freaked out about the 2 cartons of smokes I was buying a week at $70 a carton. I buy an insane amount of stuff, every week, at least a hundred bucks worth. Every atty and carto made, every new fangled PV that hits the market, every tank, Over 100 flavors now in my juice lab... Thats just after a year of vaping. Combine the saving from not smoking, and DIY mixing my juice, costs me almost nothing to vape 6ml+ a day.

Most of us would have bought cigs, before we bought food.

This is so true....I've mentioned this before in the mega thread but I'll mention it here too. Wayne and I would be spending about $900 a month on smokes if we were still smoking. If we both got REOs every month, atties, batteries, and juice we'd still be ahead by $550 a month!!! If we never bough another mod and just got juices and supplies...we'd only be spending about $100 per month on vaping. So $150 for a mod is chump change compared to what we used to spend on smokes! I did the math, by the way...in one year, that would be a down payment on a house that we smoked. :grr: Seems so foolish to me now.

Yes, you can drip in the MonkeyBoxx :) I do quite often, when I don't feel like switching the bottles. Though, I do have 10 separate bottles to fill my most favorite of juices, but not all are being used yet (I've got 6 open just in case ;) )

Edit: I apologize to the Suppliers and hope that I do not cross any lines by such discussion. I am not here to promote, only to inform.

Nice to see you, Levitas! :) Thank you for adding your perspective....we do like to have fair discussions...but as someone else had pointed out, it can be a challenge when the question about another mod is made in this sub-forum. Honestly, I was concerned it could turn into a MB trashing and I don't want that to happen as I'm sure no one else does. You are correct to point out that currently, the benefit to the MB is the VV. The VV version of the REO is being looked at right now, but development is still a ways off.

PS....Nice work with the other thread regarding another forum. ;) Most folks handled that situation rather well given the circumstances. Being part of the ECF makes me proud when our community members take the love abroad for someone they hardly know. Just sayin.

First of all I find it rather rude to to start a thread like this in my forum. I find most people just want there vaping to be simple hassle free.vv yeah its cool but its not for the masses and its not something I would ever use for a all day pv. I have built vv wood mods its not rocket science . I haven't sold any and have no pans to to sell them without going through the proper channels. If and when I do I can assure you it wont be the size of a small bible. Many of these mod builders copy cats call them what you want are in for a rude awakening. There are many of us that have applied for patents on our products. Every couple weeks there's another bottom fed juice mod builder popping up claiming he has the newest best thing. There all copies in imo

I have a few mods....since collecting them is a hobby now......and I love my vv's that I have....and I do use ALL of my mods....in my collection are 4 Reos....My Reos are my most used mods because when I'm on the go they go with me...if I'm running out on the quick..I grab my mini and grand and go....I have travel packs for concerts, boardwalk etc...that are small but hold the reo and xtras like batt, juice bottle, atty...my wood reos sit on my coffee table...(they look good on there too..:))... but my mini and grand are my travel companions....the "no wires" was a plus for me...the feed system ..plus....the toughness of them..another plus..the look...plus...ease of use...plus...maintenance...plus... color/wood choice...plus...so the price..were they worth it? Sure were...:2cool:.....I really don't question the price of mods....it's what the mod can do that makes it worth the money...Quality baby!!...I have not had the pleasure of trying the monkeybox..so I can't comment on it...:vapor:

Sure! I'm not arguing that point. I don't have it in my mind to try and change anyone's mind on what they think is the best choice for their vaping needs.

I happen to be a part of those *some* that believe that VV is the cat's meow, so to speak. If you've found the perfect set-up and your juices always stay great & delicious at that set-up then of course that's fantastic! Why would you want to change? I wouldn't!

Variable voltage, to me, is all about diversity. I can use anyone of my atty/cartos for my Monkey, but in order to do so on other mods, I'd have to change the batteries to accomodate certain resistances. I don't have to experiment with multiple attys/cartos to hit my sweet spot, because all I have to do is adjust the voltage to find it with whatever atty/carto I am using. That to me is keeping it simple.

ETA to your edit: Just curious, why would you need to wash your mod? Does it leak on the inside? Please, take no offense to that question, I am just truly curious?

I also wanted to ask, are the Reos regulated? Or does the voltage decrease as the battery life decreases?

as fare as vv goes.... one of my earliest feeder mods was a vv..... the problem i see with the VV is the fact that its not worth a dime on a juice fed mod... IMHO... i wanted juice fed to be simple... the idea for me was this.. i have a mode that i can vape with hassle free.. no more dripping no more filling... but with the vv i was changing batts half way through the day.
the fact is now both the battery industry and the atty industry have opened up options that just weren't there when i started out.. LRs were to low for me and not made to last and batts dropped in power lock rocks.
the point of a vv mod is to adjust the power in to your atty to get to "sweet spot" but your still compromising your batt life.
it works out something like this..
weather you adjust the voltage or change the resistance of your atty end result is a change in watts... the sweet spot we all refer to is the preferred wattage rang we like each of our juices at... so for me i find it better to use a standard high quality imr aw and pair it with the right atty for the juice im carrying... if you drip several flavors through out the day maybe vv makes sense... i still use a vv tube mode from time to time if i drip... but i don't want the compromise of vv on a mod that has 3 to 6 mil in it... i already know what wattage that juice taste best at. so i use the right atty for the right juice.
the other draw back to the vv is the fact that the more gadgets on a mode the more gadgets there are to brake. i had sent my VV back twice for repair. the last time it went back was the last time i used it.. i only fired it one other time to show the girl i gave it to how it worked... i traded it away for a standard V and couldn't be happy about my decision...
i get a full day some times more of constant clean hits with out always "dialing up" or changing batts now.
experience counts for a lot. i could have saved myself plenty of aggravation if i just stayed away from vv all together on a feeder..
as fare as leaks goes... there is none.. the design does not allow it... the reo just cant leak... baring a accidental hole or a lose lid... its just designed not to leak... i have other mods that also don't leak.. i can look at them and say "i don't know why this thing doesn't leak but it doesn't" but when you look and admire the feed system of the reo's you know with certainty it will not leak.....
any one with questions for me can feel free to pm me about anything .
