why are some posts locked at some point making the readable, but forum users no longer allowed to comment on them?

See pic for reference.....

Is there some kinda of time limits on old pages? What determines a post getting to the point that comments on it are no longer allowed?

Found another thread that I can't too.... it says "you have insufficient privileges to reply here" on the right side of the last post, and also states "Thread Status: Not open for further replies" on the right side of the page after the last post.

See example picture.

Not sure why this is. Would be nice to keep the talk going instead of starting a brand new thread based on the exact same thing. Kinda makes the search function worthless if you end up looking up a bunch of threads you can’t be a part of.

Maybe I’m missing something here.

It could be for various reason. If the thread got too heated then a Mod could have shut it down from getting out of control but left thread because comments so far were helpful. It could be that the original poster requested it closed. Or in some cases the op was answered or discussed to death and was not getting any activity anymore. I am sure a mod could give you a better answer but those are some reasons I have seen for this.

Forum software automatically closes threads that have no activity for 90 days. The thread that you have a picture of, if you look at the date it shows last post October 2014...almost a year ago.

This keeps threads from being dredged up from the past that may no longer have relevant information or a problem thread being revived. Some things are good to just let them die on their own without having to close them.

It is better to start a new thread and then current information can be presented without confusion :)

I think the Time Limit. 3mths w/o any action....

OP could be long gone.

Guess I’ll just start a new thread then. Hopefully I won’t get the ever so common "did you use the search button before posting" response.... indicating a thread of this nature already exsist; but alas.... it is dead to further info and contribution.
