Since there are 3000+ mAh 18650 batteries that actually do have that capacity, why havent i seen 1500+ mAh 18350's since they are around half the physical size of 18650's?

Asking because im building a pipe mod and around 1200-1500 mAh is the capacity that would allow me to use it all day, yet a 18650 would make the pipe either look silly or really bulky.

The 3000+ mAh batteries last longer for a low wattage device like a flashlight, but theyre a different chemistry and can't put out the same high amperage that mech mods with a low ohm coil often require. And many of the outrageous mAh claims often seen on no-name batteries are bogus.

But then there is this for an example:Test / Review: Efest 18650 3400mAh (Black) | BudgetLightForum.com
according to the review it still puts out 3000mAh at up to 3 amps (11w) which would be plenty for me since i never vape above 8w anyway

I've seen some 1500mAh "TangsFire" 18350's for sale but i know anything with "fire" in its name is more than likely a waste of lithium

Ultrafire IMHO is one of the worst for making outrageous claims on mAh. Some of their 18650s rated at 2600 have been tested at 600mAh.

I'll step up on the other side of the fence.
Ultrafire XSL 18650 2600mah and they last an average of 1.5 days in my mechanical mods. Also out perform all my Panasonic CGR 18650CH's in my Vamo.
Any battery can go to crap at any time. That does not mean the whole line is junk.

I use Trustfire 1200mah 18350 protected in my mechanical and they work fine with about a day of vaping life (moderate). Keep in mind that mods without a Kick don't regulate the voltage so the batts start at 4.2 and progressively discharge so they may seem to discharge faster. The VV/VW devices use the duty cycle to maintain the desired output. Watch the PBusardo reviews on youtube to get an understanding of this.

It's a lack of demand. 18650's are used in tons of things so they are popular and get the most development. Just like everything, if everyone wants it most of the R&D goes into that, the lesser used models will follow suit. Just watch, as the flashlight community starts to utilize them more, as I predict they will as it's almost identical to 16340's with more power, development will increase.

I also use "fire" batteries on occasion, but I certainly don't put any faith into the numbers printed on them! They are notorious for over-rating their batteries!

I don't have any of the Efest batteries, but every tech review I've seen shining results ..... Even better than the much heraled orange AWs it seems. That being said, I also love the BLF forum, lots of good people there with good tech advice!!!

Why don't you do that for us then?

??? I don't have the resources nor time that many flashlite hobbyists on BLF or CPF do. But more importantly, they publish for anyone to read many tests on batteries and chargers - the same the vaping community uses - with tech data and results instead of subjective opinions. For instance, the 1200 mAh trustfires you use and opiniate lasting all day they've tested to be not 1200mAH, but 2 batteries, first at 634,second at 723mAh. Quite different than the advertised claims of 1200, backing up my IMHO that many battery mfgs often exaggerate their power. Subjective opinions without any test data on how a particular battery performs is about as worthless as saying a mod 'hits like a freight train'.

Anyway, to answer the OPs question in general.
18350 = 18mm x 35mm - (0=Round)
Physical size limits maximum capability
Avg for true 18350 is 700-900mah with a few slightly over sized pushing higher.
Some sacrifice discharge for max mah - good for low draw applications but bad for high discharge devices.

18650's are all over the board. Some are both fatter and longer - as much as 29mmx73mm but still listed in the 65mm family.
Good avg. for performance in the 18650 family is in the 2000 - 2600 range with a few hybrids pushing higher. Many high mah 18650 will not fit in standard 18650 mods properly.

I have a Epic Storm(mini) I love the fit and weight of this mod. I hate the batteries... well hate might be the wrong word. I strongly dislike the batteries that I have. They are the Efest 800mah 18350. The other night I went out at about 6pm for cards and drinks with friends. I had 3 fully charged batteries with me. At about 11:30 I was out of power and had to switch to my ego. Does anyone have a recommendation on what batteries they use with this mod or another brand I should try.

TY

You may want to consider it is the device that is the problem.
Epic Storm is a Re-branding, Either a Lavatube Mini or the Young June Mini

I cannot relate experience to the Lavatube But the Young June is a power house. It also is a Power sucker. Mine will drain a battery in a day if left on and NOT in use.

What ohm coils are you running?
What Voltage are you set to?
How Heavy do you Vape?
All this is part of the formula for Battery performance time.
