I don't know where to post this. So, since I'm active here, this is where I'm posting
<Start Rant>
Every negative ecig story I've read or listened to seems to always include something about eliquid flavors being marketed towards children. However, there are so many alcohol flavors being marketed and advertised. Why is there such a double standard?
I just went to an alcohol website. In the Hard Cider & Malt Beverage section one can find the following flavors (small sampling):
Lime-A-Rita, Lime Straw-Ber-Rita, Hard Lemonade, Hard Black Cherry, Pear, Mango Punch, Cranberry Lemonade, Jamaican Me Happy, Twisted Tea, Strawberry Lemonade, B. Nektar Zombie Killer, Blueberry Lemonade, Tropical Fruit, Pineapple, Black Jack Cola, Watermelon Punch, Cranberry Lime, Paradise Punch, Raspberry Lemonade, Watermelon Splash, Kiwi Strawberry
In the Beer section one can find such wonderful classics such as:
Banana Bread Beer, Cherry Wheat, Blueberry Lager, Purple Haze, Raspberry Wheat, Apple Ale, Tangerine Wheat, Apricot Ale, Vanilla Pale Ale, Organic Raspberry, Grapefruit, Strawberry Beer
I'm not getting into the Vodka or Wine sections and I'll certainly not bring up the ever popular Hello Kitty Sparkling Wine (and a hello Kitty Beer just hit the market in Asia).
According to the CDC,
People aged 12 to 20 years drink 11% of all alcohol consumed in the United States!!!!39% of High School students drank some amount of alcohol, 22% binge drank, 8% drove after drinking alcohol and 24% rode with a driver who had been drinking alcohol.
So, tell me, who are all those flavors marketed towards? Why all the alcohol advertising all over the place? Why allow the use of cartoons and bright colors to advertise alcohol? Where's the letter from the State AGs to the FDA concerning this? Why the double standard?
