Why are they so HEAVY?

I posted yesterday about a KR8 I was given, and I just wanted to comment about how heavy it is. I realize it's metal, and isn't going to be as light as an analog, but I've got two concerns: It just doesn't feel right, and I'm allergic to nickel content in metal, so I'm worried about an allergy popping up. Mine is kind of a textured black, not sure that it's rubberized, but it might be. I noticed a bunch of kinds with acrylic tips (are those 501s?) but there's still the concern of allergies from holding the ecig. I can't explain just HOW allergic I can be - welts, rashes, it's ugly.

I can't hold my ecig the way I hold an analog, and I'm not sure that's a horrible thing, but it would be nice if it was a bit lighter. Thoughts?

Also, total side thing, but which brands DON'T light up? The light means nothing to me, and I'd rather have one that didn't light up at all. I can't buy anything for a month or so, but I'm thinking maybe there is a better brand/model for me.

They're also batteries. So there's going to be some weight to them. I don't know anything about the Tececig so I don't know if it's abnormally heavy or not or how it's balanced. The only mini I've used was the Smokeless Image Volt. I was able to get used to the added weight of them pretty quickly though and vaped them the same as I did a cig (although I ditched them for a bigger battery with more life as I got over needing to have a cig clone pretty quickly as well).

And most tips are universal. The difference between a 510, 808, etc is the threads used on the battery end. They're usually the same size on the mouth end.

Every mini I have seen has the light. Most people love the light so I doubt there's very many, if any, out there that don't light up. I know the Volts have "stealth caps" for the minis which blocks the light though. The pics I could find of Tececig looks like they're very similar to the Volts. You could see if the caps on your come off and if they do, you could buy some of the SI stealth caps and see if they fit. The caps are $0.24 each (and about $3 for shipping).
Or, probably a better option is, just get some paint or dye and black out the cap on the Tececig. Regular paint with probably flake off quickly but you can find Krylon Fusion or Vinyl dye just about anywhere that sells spray paint for around $5. Spray a little into a 2 liter bottle cap and apply it to the cap with a q-tip. If the cap comes off, you could also soak the cap in RIT dye which will dye most plastics just as well as it does cloth. Just be careful around the area where the cap and battery meet as there's often a gap for airflow that you don't want to seal up.

As far as your allergy. Most battery/mod bodies are made of aluminum or steel so they shouldn't be a problem. However, many carts/attys use Nichrome wire for the coils which are what heat up and vape your juice. Nichrome is a Nickel alloy. It's extremely unlikely you'll get any Nickel transfer from vaping off Nichrome wire but it's something you should be aware of.

Over the edge...
As DedTV said, the weight is all about the battery. Battery size = how long the battery charge will last. That's the tradeoff. As AJMoore said, it's different than smoking . Most of us wanted something small, light and even something that looks like a cigarette when we first started. In my case, that's the last thing I want. I want a battery that lasts all day without recharging. And I couldn't care less how much it weighs. And I definitely don't want something that looks like a cigarette!
Keep on vaping and I think your priorities might change. About the allergies, I haven't a clue, so hopefully someone with the same allergies can help you. God luck and keep on vaping!

Yeah, when I got my E-Power 14650 in all SS I wondered how heavy it'd be, but it's surprisingly light for it's size. Size-wise, it's about the size of an average size cigar...not bad at all. The all-day battery power and juice capability of the XL cartos is a world of difference from the smaller types.

I don't have particularly large hands, and It's still perfectly easy to use. Quite well balanced too IMHO. The balance point on mine with the SS 1.7Ω Resurrectors and a metal drip tip is right about on the seam where the batt joins the switch, which is right where you'd hold it.

Thanks for the replies - I think I won't have a problem getting used to holding the ecig differently - it's not that big a deal - it's just something I noticed. Of course, you can't really make batteries light. Are some models made from plastic or are they all metal? Interesting about the nickel coil. I'll have to keep an eye on that. I've got a sore throat/sinus infection right now, so I couldn't say if the throat pain is a result of an allergy or not.

I do find that I drag much harder (auto battery?) and as I'm getting older, I'm noticing my face is starting to look like "smoker face" - you know, that pull of the upper lip. Do the kind with the button require a less strong drag? It seems a minor thing, but I don't need more wrinkles than I've already managed to give myself!

I'm noticing my face is starting to look like "smoker face"
After a few months you'll be shocked at how healthy the facial skin looks. I've had comments from neighbors at the cottage this yr- you look GREAT, what have you been doing...and I smoked for 44 yrs.
"Smoking cigarettes reduces the efficiency with which the skin can regenerate itself – smoking causes the constriction (narrowing) of the blood vessels at the top layers of the skin which in turn reduces blood supply (to the skin). It is the reduced blood supply which causes a reduction in the availability of oxygen (which is necessary for all living cells) and the removal of waste products, dead cell fragments etc… which provide the necessary environment for regeneration.
Cigarette smoking causes the blood vessels at the top layers of the skin to constrict and so reducing the oxygen level in the blood there. This thickens the blood and reduces the levels of collagen in the skin (it is actually because of this that smoking is also associated with slow or incomplete healing of wounds).
In fact, smoking a single cigarette can produce cutaneous (pertaining to the skin) vasoconstriction (decrease in the calibre of blood vessels) for up to 90 minutes. One study suggests that blood flow in the thumb decreases about 24% after smoking one cigarette and by 29% after two cigarettes. Another study suggested that digital (finger) blood flow fell by an average of 42% after smoking one cigarette. A further study found that smoking for 10 minutes decreases tissue oxygen tension for almost an hour and concluded that the typical pack-a-day smoker would remain hypoxic* for most of each day. (Smith and Fenske, Journal of the American Academy of Dermatol)
*hypoxic – a reduction of oxygen supply to a tissue below physiological levels despite adequate perfusion of the tissue by blood.
Smoking makes your skin thinner
A recent British study took 25 pairs of identical twins where one twin was a lifelong smoker and the other had never smoked. The doctors used an ultrasound technique to gauge inner arm skin thickness. The smoker’s skin was a quarter thinner than that of the non-smokers and in a few cases there were differences of up to 40 per cent. (Twins study, St Thomas's Hospital)"
Do the kind with the button require a less strong drag?
Many of us that use the manual batts push the button down for 2 secs to "prime" the PV before inhaling. We than continue holding the button and begin to inhale. Also this "stronger hit" helps in times of stress.

Found some specs on mine...a different vendor, but basically the same PV.
Mine would be a tad more on account of the SS XL Resurrectors and metal drip tip. Not anything noticeable though.

Size & Specs:
Total Length (including cartridge): 146mm (5.75 inches)
Diameter: 17mm (0.69 inches)
Weight (including battery): 66g (2.3 oz)

I think that is light enough.. ;)
But, you can get them much smaller, like the Volt, or even this: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...5727-pictures-your-setup-405.html#post6372509

The matter of the atty wire...well, you use one now that probably has that nichrome wire already. I'd think you' d be more likely to have an allergic reaction to the PG in juices.

About the metal issue. You can get PV's made out of nearly anything from solid SS, plastic, aluminum, brass, wood, rubber-coated....you name it. Using a non-metallic drip tip might be wise for you too. They make some beautiful tips out of glass and plastics. :)
