Why are topics locked?

All the locked ones appear to be due to the age of the thread that's locked (ie: no activity for several months).
Ahhh ok but still dont get that. Ive belonged to forums before and threads didnt get lock because theres little action to it there is always a chance new members might bring it back to life, they were locked because they broke rules but hey im not the powers to be lol.
Only thing that bothers me is here threads that don't just get locked they get completely deleted.... When its deleted you lose the reference info to the topic... Locking them from time to time I understand, no need to beat a dead horse but the complete deletion baffles me.
I agree. When I first came here and used the "search" all I saw was closed threads and I had questions I wanted to ask on them.... very frustrating. And they were always on the first one or two pages of the search and I didn't find an open thread... ususally not the best threads.. until page 3.
You know you bring up something that on my last boards was a situation as well. The members and mods came to a good comprimise. They made sections strictly for adults. You had to be verified of age and then agree to a disclaimer that you entered at own risk because some material might be offensive. That might not be a bad idea to have in each group forum as a sub forum so as not to exclude or have to constantly moderate things. Of course the only rule or standard of that forum was no bashing or fighting were a member felt ganged up on and of course no law breaking but other then that it really was a no holds bar type of sub forum.

I like 'no holds barred'.BOTOH, I respect the ECF rules. What works in my (real)world,might not work on a (cyber)forum. But then I like 'face to face' HeHe.
I agree i respect ECF rules as well. Plain and simple its there forums its there rules lol. Not that complicated to understand. I did how ever send a private email to the forum manager and made the suggestion and didn't post the idea on the boards in the Site Feedback area because i didn't want it to start any controversy.
Quite honestly i was supprised there wasnt a enter at own risk type of warning for this sub forum. As most gays are very sexual in nature lol. Besides being very out spoken etc. Not saying all gays are like that but lets be honest most are at one point or another. And from reading some of the stuff in this area it just made me feel like it was another closet. I came out when i was 18 and that was hard enough the first time and swore i would never go back in lol. Just saying. 
This forum is a social group forum but must still follow the rules for posting on ECF, one of which is no explicit sexual content. Thus having an enter at your own risk disclaimer is unnecessary and quite frankly I would think it insulting to our Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual members.
I don't think that there is any need to make a special warning about the content of this forum because it is in reality no different than any other social group forum. It is a place where like minded people can communicate and socialize outside of the e-cigarette related topics.
As for the locking and deleting of threads:
We do lock threads that have no new content in 120 days because if there has been no activity in that long there is no real reason to necro post, let the thread die a graceful death and start a new one. this is especially important in the e-cig content areas because things change so fast.
We delete posts for a variety of reasons and if a post was deleted it was because the post broke ECF rules or is unregistered supplier spam. Unfortunately sometimes good information gets "lost" but 99 times out of 100 it was bs to begin with or just not acceptable for inclusion on the forum for one reason or another

Hi oldsoldier thanks for the imput. And im not trying to cause any trouble. I did send you an email. But unless....... its hard to explain what i ment further and tring to be PC. So ill try and say this without breaking rules lol. But most gays do tend to verbalize in a very sexual way. Thats the only reason i brought it up and wasnt meant for just the gay community. But like i said before its not our forums and its the forums rules not that complicated. So no big deal was just a suggestion.
