I've been vaping for about a month now, and I love it. Just switched from a eGo pen to a vv/vw box mod. I've seen the guys doing rebuilds at my local shop and just thought they were overkill. Why would you go through all that trouble, mess, and potential hazard when you can get it all packaged up neat and tidy? I understand having the satisfaction of doing it yourself and all, but it seems like a lot of unnecessary effort. That is, until yesterday.

I walk into my local shop (happily puffing away on my new VTR) to get more juice. As I'm looking over my choices, the store manager is b.s.ing with me and asking me how I like the VTR, while putting the finish touches on his personal rebuild. I notice he's dripping the same fluid I had in mine. He then says, "Try this one". Son of a b....! It was like going from a syringe stream to Niagara Falls! So flavorful, so satisfying! The vapor I exhaled looked like a gallon of milk ignoring gravity! I loved it!

Now I go back to using my VTR. Is it broke? No, it's just that the memory of that big pull off the rebuild is overshadowing anything I puff now. It has ruined me for convenient vaping. I will be in attendance at their next Sunday rebuilders gathering, buying equipment and learning about ohms, and eventually making a mess at home, trying to recreate that beautiful vape. What a jerk! ;)

yeah but rebuilding coils is easy it only takes a matter on minutes. I've been doing micro coils for the last few months and they seem to last for a really long time. maintenance is a matter of pulling the wick giving it a dry burn and adding more wick

True, but there is always that tinker factor that drives one to build the perfect coil.

i wish i could rebuild. I'm having trouble due to health issues, but thats not stopping me from trying. going to ask my partner if he would like to learn.

Where there's a will there's a way :) Vice grips can be very handy for steadying the drill bit/needle/machine screw, or a vice in a pinch. Using a Machine screw (M2 if you can find it, likely have to get them online) really helps as you can wind the wire in the threads of the screw and it comes out great every time. I take my machine-screw coils and compress them with pliers under a torch to make microcoils in a pinch. I prefer the drill bit but that's due to experience at this point. Also, for torching kanthal and for getting a "loose" microcoil to touch, I've found a basic propane torch like such:

just standing up frees up a hand as well. Keep at it, or see if a local spot will build coils for you :)

Today I have 97 days analog free- I too love vaping!!! I am celebrating the end of this day looking at my 2 hand made coils. Getting ready to put em in and fire it up! Accomplished! Yay! Took 2 failed attempts and then I got one 2.4 ohm and my fourth coil, 2 perfect ohms! Woooot! This vaping hobby of mine is very young still and I don't plan on stopping here! I am juiced!!! Hope you will report back after your Sunday at the shop! :) I would love to hear how it went!

One of the B&Ms I frequent is usually full of the 20-somethings who are all about blowing clouds, it's fun to talk to them and listen to them chatter about it - if I were their age, I'd probably doing the same thing. :)
It's like anything else, everyone approaches it differently, like computers - some just want to turn it on, do what they need, and turn it off. (ego w/clearo). Some want a little more power, and want to try some different things (cartos, box mods, vv/vw). Some want to tinker, write code, fiddle with drivers, get the most power they can (rebuilds).
