why do I get timed out and logged off

Why is it I get logged off after so long and most of the time I have to copy and past my messages to people because by the time im done writing it the system times me out and logs me off, is there a setting somewhere im missing or can use to keep me logged in,??

When you first log onto the forum, did you tick the box that says; "keep me logged in"? (or words to that effect)

Same happens to me - always has - very frustrating. I could spend a lot of time composing a post and when I submit it - I am not logged in.

For firefox, you need to get an add on called Lazarus. It's great and absolutely essential for long posts. It can recover any post that you lose with one click.

There is not one. There is a box that says "remember me" if you check it, it will automatically log you in when you come to ECF. I have ECF as my homepage. I am logged in as soon as I open my browser

As long as you dont have your browser settings to delete cookies when exiting right.

I never heard of that happening. I have my on all day if I want. I don't think it matters but I run my pc's with sleep, screen savers and all that ms control stuff off. Don't see how that would affect it though. Sorry. Check in ms help for pc.

Has happened to me more times than I can count, has nothing to do with remember me. I am on the "blazer forum" which is similar to this and it doesn't happen there. Really sucks when ya get passionate about something.

Happens to me with firefox and explorer. Weird thing is sometimes it stays logged on for hours and sometimes only minutes.

The iPhone is a bit different to your computer, it will keep you logged in pretty much until you manually log out.

I am so sorry, MW... I belong to a few different forums of various subjects. ECF doesn't have the option on the opening screen. My apologies.

I am not using Firefox. I am using IE7.

Also, you know the box you can check that says 'remember me'? Well, no matter how many times I check that box, each time I come to the site - I still have to type my password in. There are a number of other sites I frequent and my password is stored and I am able to log in automatically.

Not sure what to make of this.

Well, you are using IE. That is a perfectly sufficient explanation for every concievable browser problem out there

I really like IE. I sometimes work from home and I have to use IE to access our network.

I know I can install both, but I hate putting things on my PC that I really don't need.

Ya know, this really sounds crazy and people might not believe me on this but, as of late last night this no longer happens to me, is that crazy, I almost think there was a setting changed somewhere from within because I have been logged on since last night and the system hasnt logged me off as of yet, SO WHATS UP WITH THAT..?????

I use "secure login" with Firefox. It's really easy, when I open ECF, all I have to do is click on the secure login key and I am logged in.
