...taste burnt?

At first, I thought it was just the juice but I tried loading some BWB cafe mocha into it and it doesn't taste all that great... I tried soaking it numerous times (I really don't want to waste anymore juice!) and when I fire it up I can here it searing and crackling and the flavor just doesn't taste that good. I have another LR carto loaded with VR4 from VapeRite and it doesn't taste bad so why does this one? But thinking on it, the other one has a similar taste just not as powerful. It's weird, at first I loved LR, because the power was excellent but if it continues to taste like this than I need to go back to my standard attys (which sucks because currently they are all either soaking or drying)

Am I missing something here? I am using a standard 650maH eGo battery and the LR cartos are 2ohm. Is it just supposed to taste robust and burnt? I can barely taste the cafe mocha in this and those who've tried cafe mocha KNOW that I SHOULD be able to taste it. What do you guys think?

Probably because the cloth or the coil wrapping is burnt. You can clean them but if they are actually burnt - like holes burned in the cloth, fiber... it doesn't really go away. Try cutting one open or see the 'Dangerous Carto' thread where there are many autopsies.

If you continue to use cartos then refill on first detection of loss of flavor - when you go past that point - some burning will occur, esp. on lower ohms. For me, even 1.5Ω attys wash out flavor - 1.7-1.8Ω while a small difference in ohms is a big difference in flavor and longer lasting attys. And the vapor is still better than regular ohm'd attys.

Can I just take the stuffing out and drip it like a regular atty? If so, is there anything I need to do differenty?

The burnt taste is immediate btw. I soaked the stuffing numerous times with juice and it still tastes the same. I really don't think I am doing everything correct or that my cartos are working correctly. It honestly destroys the flavor completely.

Again, once burnt it won't go away. And while there is no good way to remove the filler - mainly because what begins to burn is the coil wrapping and you really can't remove that - there are CE2 cartos that only have no burning wicks - basically just tanks with no filler and no coil wrap. Royal Smoker makes them. Check out any CE2 thread in the cartomizer forums for more info.

Did the carto taste burnt on the initial puff of the initial fill? If your initial puffs tasted fine, then that means you just went too far without topping it off. Like KentC mentioned, the filler will get burnt once it gets too dry, and once it's burnt it will never go away. When I first started using LR cartos, it took me a few days to be able to tell when the flavor was dropping off. Every now and then I will go too far and I just end up tossing that carto.

It might be burnt but it tasted like that immediately. All of them do. I soaked them numerous times before each try and they all have an odd taste? I realize that if I let it dry, it will burn but this makes no sense to me because it tasted like this right out of the box. Perhaps I just don't like the taste of LR? Or perhaps I didn't soak them enough (I used ALOT of juice) I am vaping on my first carto with the VR4 in it and it's not nearly as bad as the others. This is very odd to me. Ah well, I guess perhaps it was a user related problem. I think I'll stick with just atomizers rather than cartomizers, I surely do not find these things to be any more convenient than regular LR attys. It seems I waste alot of juice this way and I have to keep the filler wet at all times else it will burn and taste nasty. Unless I am missing something I don't understand why anyone would want cartomizers, lol.

Ok.. 'an odd taste' is different than burnt and with rare exceptions, I've always tasted that 'odd taste' in most cartomizers - it's why I don't use them anymore. Certain flavors mask it well. Someone once said 'like straining ejuice through a sweaty t-shirt' and while that might be a bit of an exaggeration it got a few laughs at the time because it did address that 'odd flavor' that many taste. AND more importantly for some vendors, not everyone tastes it... tastes are subjective and there are some aspects of tastes that are genetic to where some things taste bitter to some and not to others.

Joye cartomizers don't wrap their coils and the filler is the same filler that they use in cartridges - so you might try them if you like the whole carto aspect but there are other solutions now - the mega atty and cartridges for the eGo hold just as much ejuice as the large cartos and the tanks hold 1.5ml and there is no filler. CE2's have no filler but the larger ones - 'XL's' have wicking problems imo. That said, some of the Joye cartos have other problems - plasticy tastes for some - I didn't get that but again the mega eGo attys hold just as much ejuice and are easier to fill - no needle tips or syringes needed.

Honestly, I never intended on trying them. I never really liked the filler in cartridges but I wanted to try a LR atty. A local vendor here in St.Louis recommended a 5 pack of cartos for $7, which would be the price of one LR atty. Since I am running low on money until Wed. he recommended the cartos instead of the atty. I honestly don't see myself even using the last two cartos. I just wanted a new atty to use while my others were being cleaned/dried.

This is all such a headache - would a viable fix to all of this nonsense be a 'feeder' type mod? and just have numerous extra feeding bottles with various juices? Then again, I guess I'd still have to clean the atty. I have so many flavors but it's hard to enjoy them all because I have to reclean attys over and over again just to make sure the flavors don't intertwine. There's got to be an easier way...

So, if I tried a LR atty, I wouldn't get that 'odd' taste would I?

To the last question - no you wouldn't get that taste and you'd get good vapor. I have a cisco 306 lr (fits the 510 batt connection) that I use for dripping and the vapor is great! I still have one mod - a Wetbox - which is a bottom feeder with a 3ml bottle inside that you squeeze when you need more ejuice and that works with any cartomizers but because I do taste that odd taste, I use CE2 non-filler cartos on that mod. And it works well except that the switch on the mod is not well rated, so you have to use a higher ohmed carto (2.5+) for it. Still some light flavored ejuices work well with it without the odd taste.

Thanks alot Kent, live and learn right? I clearly am not a fan of cartomizers, lol. On wed. I am going to purchase some LR attys and stick with dripping GOSH! I can't get that nasty carto taste out of my mouth!

Glad I could help Lev. I know what you're talking about - just thinking of it brings back the taste :) LR dripping is the ultimate in taste and vapor - tanks are close. But with dripping you have to pay more attention depending on the resultant wattage - below 8W you should be good. Above that you have to keep draws shorter and in either case drip when you detect the first loss of flavor or you'll be buying lots of lr attys. None are warrantied for good reason - I've had a few go on the first vaping session - others - ciscos I've had go for 3 months. But not all of those will go that long.
