Why do my Atty's keep dying?

Last month I ordered a new eGo after getting tired of swapping out batteries on my Janty Dura every couple of hours. It's been working great except...

The atomizers keep dying. I got the 2 that came with the eGo, plus a third I ordered with it. The first one lasted about 2 weeks, the second died after just a couple of days, and now the 3rd is no longer producing much vapor (which happened to the first just before it died).

I've put my original Janty Dura atomizer onto it for now, which is still going strong (I used it for a month before switchng to the atomizers that came with the eGo).

I can't figure out for the life of me why these things are dying? Supposedly, the Dura and eGo atomizers are the same thing, made by Joye. I know the Janty TAWA atomizers supposedly don't last long, is that what comes with the eGo? (The eGo atomizers don't have the brass band around them like the Janty atomizers, they're just black).

Is there some big secret to keeping an atty going that I'm missing? I'm what you would probably consider a heavy vaper, I use the thing pretty much all day long with low nic juice.

Tbonifie if you are using it that much it sounds like you are hitting it like me. You are probably running those atty's pretty hard and hot. Make sure you are keeping them wet. When I get two to three weeks out of an attty I am happy (I am running LR's though). I have had some go in 2 or 3 days. Others will chime in and say they have had them last 2 months! I think a better comparision would be ml of juice to atty life. My guestimate with my usage is about 60 -90 mls and if you are beathing through it that is about 9 days worth. Good luck and someday we will find a SUPER atty.

Try this on those attys that dont work. Put you some isopropyl alcohol in a small bowl. put them in it and let it set for about 5 minutes or so. When you pull one out of the liquid and hold it up, the alcohol should stream out of the bottom hole. If it doesn't, it still has some gunk in it. swirl it around several times and keep trying till it streams out. Then sit it aside for a day and try them again. I have done this twice with my attys and they perform flawlessly. Also, you should try and blow the atty out once or twice a day, that will also help in keeping the gunk down. So far so good for me, but this is only starting my second week. I plan on this cleaning ritual about twice a week as I vape pretty hard now to.

I'm ready for the SUPER atty! Every time I think I've got back up I have 2-4 go down on me at once. What's up with that!?!?!?

Those little brats talk to each other, I just know it. Same thing happens to me. I think I am going to keep them seperated in my gear box! Look at it this way though another package with more toys is always just another atty order away!!!

I tried cleaning one with Isopropyl alcohol, blew it out, put it in a small jar filled with the alcohol for several minutes, let it dry a bit, then blew it out some more.

It still doesn't produce vapor nearly as well as the Janty atomizer.

I downloaded the ECF troubleshooting guide and measured the resistance, it's 3.1 ohms, so that should be fine.

But it still pulls too hard and doesn't produce much vapor. I have it sitting in the jar with alcohol again now, but somehow I don't think that's going to change much...

Seems like maybe there is a quality control issue at Joye or something. I only used this one for about 2 days, and it never pulled as freely as the Janty atomizer.

Practically indestructible; but if it does break, simply wrap a new wick w/wire and you're in business.

What in the hell is that thing??

...And where do I get one. Heh.

Its the Atty designed to go with the Bulli I believe though that bottom connector would have to be pretty small to work with other systems I believe.

As to the OP, try for the Cisco attys in 510 in 306, I've been having incredible results with them (still haven't killed one and I've been using it for four weeks). I also do a quick soak every night in alcohol (two minutes tops) and then blow out and let dry.

Hey tbon, Welcome to the forum. You have hit upon, IMHO, the biggest frustration in using the e-cigs.....the atomizers. I hear stories from members having their attys lasting months, but, I don't think that that is the norm. In order to curb my own frustration, I budget for 1 atty a week, that way, when they last longer, I celebrate. I have tried different cleaning methods and sometimes they bring them back to life and then other times they don't. In the big picture, I have saved about $2000 this year using the e-cigs, so I can't really complain too loudly.

I cant say enough for steam cleaning them. I have a steam shark hand held steamer and I do mine every two days. I have pliers with duct tape on the jaws so they don't scratch the atty. Plug in the steam shark wait 5 min to heat up, steam from both ends but I always finish by going through the air holes then the connector end.

Then I use compressed air to blow it out. Let sit for an hour and it hits better than new. Every time.

They taste and work so good I started doing this to new ones even before I use them.

Steam cleaning is a great idea! Guess it only works to maintain my attys in the future, probably worthless trying to steam clean the 7 attys that have died on me this week...
I use LR attys and have been told they require more TLC than regular resistance ones... I don't know what more I can do other than what I have been- blowing them out 1-2 times a day, letting them sit connection side up over night and always keeping them wet with juice.... Any suggestions? I'm going to have to try steam cleaning, great idea!!

That steam cleaning idea is interesting, I'll remember to give it a go sometime.

What I've been doing is the isopropyl alcohol bath once every few days. Let 'em sit in it for 5 or 10 minutes, then pick them up, threads facing down, and let the alcohol drain out the bottom. Dunk it back in, and let it drain again, 4 or 5 times. I set it to dry in front of a fan overnight.

In the morning, it's bone dry. Isopropyl alcohol leaves no residue at all. Prime it well (at least 4 or 5 drops for regular atties, at least 6 or 7 for LR's), and vape away.

I've never had an atty die. I have some that are almost 4 months old. Even my LR has been going strong for... I think 3 or 4 weeks now? And I've been using it pretty much every day.

Works for me.

I'm one of those lucky ones that haven't lost an atty yet in a bit over two months. Have no idea what I'm doing different than all of those that keep loosing atties after only a short time. I usually do the alcohol soak every few days when my atty seems to be getting a bit sluggish. I'm not really on a schedule with it but I'd say its between 3 and 5 days. If my atty really does seem like its not working the way it normally does I don't keep using it but do switch to another one and give the not working one a cleaning. I've also done the hot water soak a few times and that's worked too. I only blow my atties out when in use if it sounds and feels like its gotten a bit flooded which means never on some days and several times a day on other days. I don't usually hold my manual button down for really long draws and I make sure that I let the atty cool down every few vapes when I can feel the atty has gotten really hot. I use regular 510 attys and not the LR or HV atties. I only occasionally get that slightly burnt taste where my atty has gotten too dry and when that happens quickly add more drops to my cart and maybe a drop or two to the atty. I switch flavors several times during the day and rarely switch atties unless I'm using a really strong flavor (coffee, cinnamon) and on those I use their own atty as the taste lingers forever so even after a cleaning its always easy to tell which is my coffee and cinnamon atty.

I'm going on 7 weeks tomorrow with my 2 original attys. I use 100 % VG and sweet flavorings which is supposed to shorten attys lives.

Here's my daily cleaning method and it takes 10 seconds. I filled an empty Poland spring water bottle with 1/3 white vinegar and 2/3 DISTILLED water. Put a rubberband around the neck and it holds a pipette. I keep it by the kitchen sink:)

Before bed, I squirt that water through the atty I used that day about 5 times and blow it out. I do it faithfully every night. My attys are still performing like new at 42 days old and I chainvape thick 100% VG! I do the drip method though -so I don't have to worry about carts/cartomizers going dry and destroying my attys.

I have never had an atty die either. Almost ten months of vaping, and never killed one.
Vodka bath for 10 min then, steam clean. I can't stress enough how well it works. They come back better than new every time.

I do rotate attys a lot though, so they get to rest quite a bit. And I have 8 attys going so if you assume they have been used = that means every atty has lasted over a month for me. This includes SR 510, LR 510, LR Cisco 510, LR Joye 306, and LR Cisco 306. Never killed one..... knock on wood...
