I agree with most of the reasons already given, but I'll add one more...

VG tends to give me some congestion and phlegm production, which of course I am not fond of.
But I do love me some vapor, so I try to use 80/20 or 70/30 mixes when I can.

In my signature there is a link to a collection of polls.
One of them you might be interested in shows what PG/VG ratio people prefer.

its supposedly thicker juice and it produces more vapor

If you were answering the original question, "Why do people use PG?", that's backwards.

PG is definitely not thicker than VG, nor does it produce more vapor. PG is better at carrying most flavors, and helps with TH as compared with VG.

After vaping for about 7 months, I switched from a higher PG ratio, usually 80/20, to a 50/50 mix. PG was making me extremely thirsty, and lowering the percentage eliminated that. I had also noticed that my skin was getting dry, like the skin on my face flaking even with moisturizer every morning. It was gradual so I thought it was just me getting old, but when I reduced the PG my skin went back to being it's normal self. I've been vaping 50/50 for about 8 months now.

One of the things that really amazes me is that I haven't had a cold, flu or any allergy symptoms AT ALL since I started vaping. Right after I bought my first kit I spent hours online researching e-cigs, and that's when I found out about the testing that had been done on PG back in the 40's that found that PG had antibacterial qualities. I sometimes wonder if that knowledge somehow unconsciously works to prevent me from getting sick more than it's the actual PG (I know that probably sounds wicked odd but I figured I'd mention it), but I usually have some seasonal allergy symptoms which I haven't suffered from for over a year.

What I'd be curious to know is what the inventor of e-cigs had for percentage of ingredients, and what the rationale was for those percentages.

I'm a new vaper, 13 days and counting... I started off with 50/50 blend. Got some PG liquids... I've had same problems as Brewlady with them. Furthermore, my eyes were really dry and got irritated during the day. Now, after five days with PG, it tastes awful. I mean, now I can't vape PG at all, not even those flavours I liked at first, because of the taste and feel in my mouth. Allergy maybe...? Lucky me I've got some 50/50 left. No probs with that... Hopefully my allergies and flus are gone too! :)
