I'm wondering why it is that posts to the Lounge area don't increase a user's post count. It seems to me that even though discussions there tend to be off the topic of e-cigs, that is still a perfectly legitimate way to contribute to the ECF community.

There's an abundance of off-topic threads scattered throughout the entire forum, but the posts they contain are considered legitimate enough to add to a user's post count. So, why is this not the case for Lounge posts as well?

Just my $0.02.

Still, the question remains unanswered.

Then allow me to elaborate.

There are those (mostly newer members) who believe that a member with a high post count must be someone who is very knowledgeable. Now, you and I may know better, and I'm sure those folks will know better once they get a bit of experience under their belts, but the fact still remains. This is a common thing for online forums that are devoted to a particular subject, and since it is, there are certain off-topic forums where posts do not add to post counts. This is basically an attempt to make sure that post counts, for the most part, represent mostly on-topic contributions to the forum.

It's not a perfect system, to be sure. My own post count would surely be over 15,000 if posts in The Lounge and the OUTSIDE forums counted. Posts in the Classifieds and Swaps forum do not count as well because they are deleted after a while, the same with the temporary Seasonal Supplier Sales Forum that we bring out for certain holidays.

Clear as mud?
