That's a very good point, although I never was a chain smoker as I started a 16 and kept going till I was 18 when I finally could walk into a gas station and buy an ecig. Since then I have been much healthier and found something that I love doing as well, but being 19, its very costly.

Yeah... you will never spend what I spent on cigarettes. I wish I had that money back. And me being 42 computer programmer, it was about being healthier as I am tied to a desk all day and savings was second reason to switch.

You don't have to spend a lot.
sigelei mod: £35
IGO-L: £12

But if you want a device hand-milled out of solid copper or stainless steel and hand-engraved, then you will have to pay a living wage to the person doing it. And they won't cost minimum wage. £10-£40 per hour mounts up quickly and is maybe half the costs. Then there is profit on top. So if your mod takes a couple hours to run off, you're looking at a very reasonable bill of £30-£120. That is about where the market is. On the other hand the artisan-made mods would be rather more time and charged at maybe £80 per hour. At the cheap end the manufacturing is fully automatic, but there are still tooling and set-up which takes time and experienced operators.

We are spoiled by mass-production. There might be 2 million vapers in the UK and more in the USA, but 99% of them are using eGos. Even the cheap drippers will not have the size of market that reduces the cost to peanuts.

And yes, certain people are ripping off the profit while the sun is shining.

I can see that my personal hobby can get expensive at times, but it's no where close to my motorcycle hobby. I don't mind having say $200 wrapped up in one good setup and a few hundred more in different things to use. I also have the attitude that I can't put a price on safety. If that means I spend more for things like batteries and chargers to feel better, so be it.

Now when I get tired of the pipes on my bike... That's a thousand each time. New bars, theres about $350 for what I like. Lights are another $400. seat...$500. So for me, in comparison, this is a cheap hobby. Much more economical to buy a $50-$100 when I get tired of one thing when compared to getting tired of things on my bike. I won't even go into what gets spent on video games and accessories.

After I bought 2 batteries and a battery charger I found myself paying $75... That seems a bit expensive for a battery and a charger.

It's not a bit expensive, it's extremely expensive. Let's say the batteries were $15 each (which is high), that's $45 for a charger. That's a lot even for B&M overhead costs being added in.

Was this online? Because I've seen some websites sell two-packs of batteries. Perhaps you ordered 4 batteries in actuality? I know that seems unlikely, but so does $75 for two batteries and a charger.

I've been vaping for 2 years 3 months. I just did a calculation of what I would have spent on cigarettes vs what I spent on vaping and here are the numbers:

Money spent on ecigs to include purchase of batteries, eliquids, and coils, and set ups for that period of time: $4,418.80

Money I would have spent on cigarettes based on 1 carton of cigarettes per week which cost me $60/carton for that period of time: $7,269.60

Overall savings so far: $2,850.80

If you have to buy everything you see advertised, there is no end as to how much more money you'll spend. It's like anything else, when you see something new and shiny ask yourself "Do I really need this based on what I've tried so far? or, does the equipment I have keep me off of cigarettes?

In the beginning you will spend money up front. The batteries and charger you just bough will last you quite a while, my batteries have lasted me this long so it's not a monthly expense. Set up a budget and try to keep to it as much as possible. It's just managing your money in the end.

Being a now sort of X smoker I consider it all cheap. I am not into mods and just use spinners and various Kangertech units on top but I have 6 of them so far and two pens, it will pay for itself in JUST ONE MONTH of not smoking.
I am from WA state and we get hit pretty hard with taxes up here though. Average 8 bucks for a pack of gaspers.

As far as the juice prices, making your own is not for everyone and if your not doing it yourself than the person making it needs to make a living. Pretty much goes for everything a guy does.

Yeah. Vamo's on FastTech are like in the $30 range. But when I went to my B&M (the cheaper of the 2 B&M's I frequent), they sell the vamo's for $75. More than double.. Shoot. I should open a vape shop. LOL

Check out these guys. Great prices. Especially on the Sigelei 20 Watt.
