Talking about clones, there is a disturbing trend lately, which is in particular things like Chi You, Nimbus, etc counterfeits, complete with serial numbers. While clones are subjectively ok (my opinion anyway), counterfeits (which are EXACT copies) in my opinion is harmful to the community.
If this goes out of control, soon you will see less and less people wanting to spend time and money into innovating new products. I'm sure a lot of money goes into making and enhancing countless prototypes before the actual production model is created.
Thoughts?

Just to get a better understanding could you kindly clarify which do you define as clones and counterfeits please? I see Ithaka, Nimbus, Sentinel, Chi You so-called clones flooding FB pages. Do consider those as clones or counterfeits?
How about the DS Mod, M28 or The Russian? Would call those as clones or counterfeits?
To me either would be intellectual theft. Original modders put alot of thought and spent time, money developing their product. Then along comes someone copies the original without having to spend anything on development; robbing the modder.
On the flipside, these inexpensive clones/counterfeits have a market because there are people who wouldn't be able to afford the original or cannot justify to themselves spending xxxx amount of money for a mod.
To support the original modder or clone manufacturer with your purchase - I think it's an ethics or moral question.
To be fair, there are examples too where the clone improves over the original.
