So what? Every material melts or vaporizes if temperature is high enough. Definitely your butan lighter produces temperature high enough to melt silica wick. The question is what temperature your lighter produces and what temperature atomizer's coil produces? I guess the later is much lower.

Yup you're right. Fibreglass softens at around 1700degF and butane lighters generally produces heat around 2000degF.

The reason I don't recommend them is because it is dependant on the gauge of the nichrome used are different across the manufacturers. The gauge of the nichrome affects the current going through it and most importantly affects the heat it produces. The commonly available nichrome has the potential to hit 2000degF

Unless u're dead sure about those data, fibreglass is a no no.
