wick / coil gunk build up

This seems like it's a fairly elementary question so I've stuck it in here, please move if there's a better spot.

I've been running ni200 with a cotton wick successfully for a little while and have been inspecting the build regularly to see what's going on.. There's now a significant amount of build up over and around the coil / wick, however it's also now vaping better than ever.

I'm interested to know what exactly causes this build up, is this the more easily burnt and sticky juice ingredients? Like for example a sugary sauce on a BBQ? Is it anything to concern myself with until the perceived vape quality starts to diminish or should I be rewicking?

I rewick and burn my coils as soon as I see build up. I couldn't tell you if that's the right thing to do or not, however.

I just ignore it. Would be safer to rewick it though

Nothing wrong with a bit of coil buildup, so long as it's not too extreme. As you noted, sometimes a small amount breaks the coil in, so to speak. If it starts to taste or vape wrong or resistance is off, time to clean or replace, otherwise, just keep an eye on it.

Yeah now that you mention it I am showing a 0.01 increase in resistance so about 5% higher, I'm not really sure if that warrants a clean or not with everything else seemingly working quite well. I'll continue to monitor it.

I notice with sweeter juice the gunk build up is quicker. I just clean and rewick.

Your set up is now seasoned, it should be good till gunk builds thicker.

Gunk is primarily formed from overheating juice elements. And yes the sugars caramelize faster. The more sugars the juice has the more it will caramelize.
