im going to build my first coil soon. my fasttech shipped out today. im looking at some wire but im curious what wick i should get. im trying for big clouds and good flavor. will sacrifice some flavor if it means more clouds. what would you guys suggest?

28 gauge Kanthal may be good for peopple who build coils 1 ohm or lower. You should start at 30 or 32. Use the 28 guage after you get some experience building.

Cotton is a deff! It holds more juice than silica, so you won't have to drip as often. Big plus when working or driving.
I have a question as I rebuild my Kanger T3's with 2mm silica

You may need to torch the silica first, also try to make sure that you are not winding the coils so tight that they are gripping the silica too tight. I have various different silica wick from different places and found that my 3mm wick is already really soft and pliable, but my 2mm and 1mm wicks really need to take a good torching to become useable. My 1mm wick almost seems like its too firm and almost feels like it's coated compared to my 3mm wick.
I've been using 3mm ecowool for about 2 months now on my drippers. I've noticed it holds a lot more liquid than silca

what about torching can you use a lighter or do you need to use torch

Another vote for cotton balls, I have tons of wick material (some of it expensive) but seem to always reach for the cotton.
until I tried cotton balls (the CVS organic) I didn't care for rebuildables. wrap a microcoil on a syringe needle or drill bit very tight and slip the cotton through it. keep it wet and replace as wanted/needed keeping that same coil as it was. love it!!

I would avoid using a lighter, it will leave black stuff on the wicks. Go to lowes or home depot and pick up a butane torch or order one online. I torch my wick until it glows orange, this is also a good way to clean used wicks. I can restore a ceramic xc-116 or silica wick back to white after I torch it. Just make sure that the juice is vaped up before attempting to restore it, it can catch fire. I also use cotton when I make micro coils. I use the rite aid rolled cotton for cotton applications.
Try doubling over your wick and using something like a sewing needle to keep the wick in place. Wrap the coil around that then pull the needle out once you mount the coil. This should leave you with enough room so the coil is not so tight. I use used to use a really thin needle in diameter to help me when I was a beginner.
For micro coils I usually use a 1/16th drill bit to wrap the coil on.

Cotton. It wicks a treat and tastes clean with about 90% of the juices I personally have tried. Some juices it just doesn't seem to play nice with...but most are okay. It's cheap, easy to work with and your coil will last a LONG time! Be sure to wash your hands before rolling it. Trust me, even if you think they're clean, wash them and dry them real well before rolling the cotton.
I also recommend a nice micro-coil when using cotton. It just works and works well!

cotton is great especially for micro coils. Personally I like 3.5mm silica doubled over and wrapped with 3/4 turns of 28ga kanthal ~1.4ohms (0.7ohms as I run strictly dual coils). Beastly clouds and awesome flavor, plus you can dry burn with silica.
