Well this is my take on it...I wrap my coils around a 3/32" bit and keep the turns spread out...and run my wick thru snug but not tight with a bow configuration. The bows act like temporary storage....just like the RAM in your computer keeps data it needs frequently at hand so it doesnt have to go get it from the hard drive...the bow (or any form of bulk wick) keeps the liquid near the coil to replenish it quickly. I think keeping the wick and coil size larger spreads out the heat and reduces the chance of burning. One problem with most attys and CE2's IMO is the tiny coils makes a lot of heat in a small area incinerating the liquid and creates carbon..ie...nasty taste. If your coil is getting red hot in use you are creating carbon and scorching flavor...no two ways about it. Lower the heat and/or increase the size of the coil and wick. I have also had some wicks fuse together completely in my days with CE2's..and when that happens nothing will flow. The straighter the fibers are the better also...while braided wick may be neater...the braids spiral around increasing the length the liquid has to travel.
@d_sten...that doesnt surprise me either...it is ceramic after all. I will only dry burn my silica wicks only once or twice max because they will start to deteriorate after multiple dry burns. Its so cheap I usually just put new in..and if you wash it and sterilize it correctly there is now "new taste" to get thru with it.
Again guys....this is just my opinion and observations. Some people just dont want to hear anything bad about stuff they bought or think is cool. Me...I hate and distrust everything until I prove to myself otherwise!
