Wow can't believe I'm the first to ask the experts .

Anyway, I've mainly been using a TW 510 Titan as my PV. I'm starting to notice my atty is starting to generate a lot of heat and not as much vapor as it should.

When I received my Titan package one of the two atomizers it came with was a dud which (I think) was caused by the wick which extends up from the atomizer coil to the bridge. The wick, after only one day of use, turned all black and began bulge out one side of the atomizer bridge. I then tried using the crest pro health mouthwash cleaning method, but the atomizer was still a wimp at best. It would generate heat, but only a tiny puff of vapor.

I have sent the seemingly defective atty back to TW and am still awaiting a replacement, and the one remaining from the package is seemingly dying. A lot of heat and little vapor. Tonight I plan on using the crest cleaning method but then I started wondering about this wick.

Is this wick really necessary? I've found (or so it seems) many atomizers do not even have this wick and some people even suggest removing it completely if you're a dripper. Well I never have gotten the performance from a cart mod that I do from dripping so it seems I'll be dripping for quite awhile. Would removing the wick help the atomizer perform? Also, what would be the best way to remove said wick? Or should I just switch to a 901 because I don't seem to be getting to flavor I want from a 510 :p. A lot of heat and throat hit (and vapor at the beginning), but I find myself adding a ton of LorAnns to any flavor juice before I taste anything at all.

Thanks in advance!

First, make sure you're not just flooding the atomizer - that can make it look like the atty is dying. Disconnect, blow it out by mouth into a paper towel and reload the cart - don't overfill and start again.

On the wick. Here's my thinking and experience. Re: "Is this wick really necessary?" ... Without actually knowing with certainty what purpose it serves, I can say without a doubt that someone thought it was necessary or it wouldn't be there - plain economics can tell you that ;-)

My experience has been that I pulled just a part of a wick from under the bridge by mistake - it looked like a piece of the oem filler and then as I pulled I saw it wasn't and stopped. I cut what I pulled out off and that atomizer while it still works and I still use it and have been for 2 months now, it is an underperformer. I've only lost one atty after a dry burn gone wrong. So I don't mess with the wicking. That said, I have seen it reported by one person, that the first thing he does with an new atty is to remove all the wicking! I highly suggest not to do that but in fact, I don't know with certainty (other than my own single experience) how much harm if any it might do. I'd fall back on the earlier comment that for economic reasons, if it weren't needed, it wouldn't be there.
