There is no steadfast rule on when to change. If your vape starts to diminish or taste burnt that is a good sign it is time. Many times it just needs a good rinsing off and your good to go again.

Agreed, but followed by a dry burn. Basically, after you rinse it off, mount it with the top off and do short controlled burns on it with no liquid. When the coil glows clean with no vaper, you've burned on any caked on juice.

Wick life, and the need for coil cleaning, is also dependent on the juice you are using. Generally, dark thick juices will require much more frequent cleaning than clearer juices. Tennessee Cured, as an example, will completely gunk up a coil in just a few days and lead to either a subdued taste or a bad taste. Hype, on the other hand, is very friendly to coils, with coils in clearos, cartos, whatever, going for much longer period of time before cleaning is needed.
