I use Hemp fiber in my protank builds for the last 18+ months and been happy. The hemp is more durable than the cotton but I haven't noticed any wicking nor taste difference. I use Rayon in my kayfun builds and it wicks fine and lasts longer than the hemp along with the rayon being easier to work with since all the strands are the same way unlike the cotton and hemp that I pull to align all the threads the same way.

Rayon wicks faster and works better for RTA's, and some deep well rda's in my opinion. Plus for around $20. you get enough for three lifetimes:)
I still like my Japanese cotton in the small RDA's, and my spheroids.
There is also silica wick-never tried it.
And readyX wick, some swear by it. The readyX wick can be dry burned and re-used over and over. I personally was not crazy about it.

I'll second that. My top two are Rayon and Japanese cotton, and, to me, some e-liquids seem to have a "brighter" flavor on the Rayon, but I haven't done any side-by-side testing, and it could just be me.

I do still use silica and XC116 and XC132 (ReadyXwick), but less and less often as time passes.

I heat it in the coil before using it. Then I saturate it with juice and dry burn it immediately, twice. I know what you mean about the taste but I find that only true when the RXW is new. After a couple of saturated dry burns, I don't notice any ceramic taste at all. Then it lasts a long long time, so, I find it worthwhile.

I do not know how you get past the smell and the taste of it.:?:

Same here, after the initial break in, it lasts forever and that new taste doesn't come back and you dry burn it when needed.
