HeHe I just rewicked the Patriot at work, with cotton courtesy of the nice folks at Gentle Dental.
Being a rda I wasn't concerned with fiber direction, but the fibers were mostly linear. I bet it would work mint to core a mesh wick in a genesis rba.
Best part was since it was a sealed sterile pack, no boiling required.

I just set up a couple KFL's with cellucotton and so far it blows cotton balls away. None of the dusty taste cotton has if you don't boil it. No muted flavor notes like I get with cotton and far better flow. None of the harsh partial burnt hits. Still have to fine tune wick amount but it's definitely a superior wick

I have never liked any kind of cotton - especially balls until I found Pima Cotton Sliver.

They sell sample pieces and its worth your while to try some. Just pull off a strand length wise and roll into desired wick size. Pure clean flavor, its all I use now. Unfortunately due to demand the price has gone up

This is what I'm using too. I bought some at a b&m and the stuff rocks. Seriously no cotton taste whatsoever. The only time I got a cotton taste was when I first started rebuilding and got the wick way too big.

I do plan on picking up some of the Japanese cotton pads and a box of cellucotton just to try out. I hear great things about the cellucotton.

I use RiteAid rolled organic cotton balls myself. The fibers are straight, and there are almost no pills in it. I dunno, maybe I got a good bag of it since I have seen other cotton that is like what you are describing. Since that bag will likely last me until I die, I will consider myself lucky... :D

This is the bag we got in the bathroom so thats what Im using heh. Ive been trying it the last couple of days but I cant seem to get it right though.. They work awesome for the first few vapes but after a while mine all start making that 'crackling' sound, which Im guessing is liquid getting onto the coil and burning?? There doesnt appear to be any gaps in the head though, maybe I didnt use enough cotton so its flooding? I pulled mine off a little bit ago and just put a stock silica coil back on cause it seems like its burning through my juice ALOT quicker too.. Cant beat that taste and vapor though, Ill just have to keep practicing I guess heh.

I heard great things about this and bought a lifetime supply. I still can not forget the taste from the one & only time using it - it was really, really bad!

Anyone that has used it, seems to say exactly what you have, but I can not see why I got such a bad taste. Do you boil it or use it as is?

That crackling sound is good. It means your wicking material is doing a good job of, well, wicking.

Ahh ok then maybe I did do it right haha. I took it apart to clean it earlier so Im still back on the stock Kanger coil now.. The Kanger crackles here and there but not like the cotton did, which is why I thought maybe something was wrong.. So does using a cotton wick go through juice faster?? I swear the last two days that thing was just sucking down juice like crazy.. Gotta stick with the Kangers for now cause Im almost out of juice and dont get paid til tuesday gotta make it stretch haha.

Stick to the leg sections, areas around the back pockets can have an earthy taste, especially if you go commando.

Yup, but I really like that with some of my tobacco juices. Gives it that 'je ne sais quoi' that really makes those juices shine.

I think I'm going to have to try extracting some of that flavor without cutting up the jeans. I mean, you can always wear them again and make more :D

I think you're on the right track, not quite enough wick. Cotton will swell once it's wet, but too loose isn't good either.

And yes, because it wicks better than silica, you get more vapor, flavor, and use more juice to get that. :vapor:

I use the koh gen do cotten purchased from sephora.com. I wasn't sure it would be worth what I paid but it is! Super easy to get consistent wicks with all the fibers going in one direction.

I too have difficulty building. I find these pads help and so do the premade coils from fast tech.

I just got some of this on ebay and it seems like fantastic stuff. I think it was $6 shipped.

Heads up. Not all cotton pads are alike. I received two boxes from Amazon, two different brands. On was highly compressed and not fuzzy or cottony at all, the other very much like cotton. I figured they all came from the same mill but these two boxes were night and day different. I don't have KGD to say which is closer.

I've been using hemp fibre for the last 8+ months in my protank builds and been very happy with its performance. I just bought a rather large box of the cellucotton at the Sally's here in Kamloops, upon inspection the rayon has no pits in it like both cotton and hemp. Since I'm not at home I twisted some rayon into a build I brought and it's rather nice stuff. Once I get a couple tanks vaped, I'm going to see how the rayon looks inside the coil compared to the hemp. The thing I did like about the rayon is that there is no breakin funky taste I use to get occasssionally from the hemp.
I'm not sure but I now occasssionally cough after a vape using this rayon but the coughing could be a few different factors so the jury is still out on my opinion of the cellucotton.

Yep the hit from rayon is slightly stronger than cotton or hemp since it wick a lot better. With cotton I was running at 9w on my KFL on a 2.2 build burning 3ml a day. With rayon tha same build I can run at 15w and burn through 5ml a day easily. Even at 9w I can burn through 4ml a day. Rayon flows so much better so you get more vape per hit

I'm hooked on the rayon it taste great.
I tried experimenting with how much was to much rayon in a kayfun.
At one point I had to use a finger nail against the coil to keep from destroying it while I pulled what
seemed like a cigarette filter thru a 3/32 coil, and it still wicked with no dry hits thru 1/2 of a tank full.
