She isn't inhaling correctly. She is trying to "smoke" it like a cigarette. I can't really explain how it is different, but you don't pull as hard on the PV as you would a cigarette. Some people don't inhale at all, since the nicotine is absorbed in the mucous membranes.

I sure hope she gets the inhale part right, vaping really worked for me and so many others to quit smoking.

Hey all....

It's weird... Me the non-smoker who loves vaping and doesn't have any issues usually... My wife, the pack a day (or less) smoker, however coughs when hitting her Blu.

I got her the low nic cartos since she smokes ultra lights, but still coughs when she tries to use it.

Thoughts?

Thanks

Its common for smokers to cough and even hack stuff up their first week or so. Have her take smaller draws, and to draw vapor into her mouth then inhale. Some people try to inhale directly into their lungs and this is not the proper way to vape.

Ask her to draw the vapor into her mouth without inhaling to the lungs, then slowly inhale a little bit and blow out the rest through her nose or mouth. If she feels the taste of the vapor being "off" when she draws it into her mouth, she should not inhale it to the lungs. Have her check the wicking in her clearo or carto to make sure it's saturated with ejuice.

Great advice here! Every time I've quit using an e-cig (a few times now in the last four years) the first week is the toughest and then it gets better. There is also the slight possibility she is having a reaction to the PG in the liquid. I know one person who starts coughing as soon as they walk into a room if there is a lot of heavy vaping going on or even from sniffing the unvaped liquid. I tried pure VG liquid on her (won't work in a Blu I don't think!) and she's fine with it.

Subscribed...for when some random hero tries to get in this guy's biz about vaping as a non-smoker.

Hey man, people inhale differently, and are effected differently. Just have her ride it out, try different techniques.

 That's funny! Hey, yah, you're not supposed to vape if you're a non-smoker! Vaping is for smokers who are trying to quit! ...yadda, yadda, yadda!

Blu uses only 100% VG.

Why? I know non-smokers that vape 0 nic juice. I have no problems with it, it is helping their DH to quit cigarettes and is an activity they do together. I don't drink soda or coffee, but you won't catch me preaching about caffeine and parents letting their kids have it. Live and let live.

After I switched from a pack a day ultra-lights, I coughed for about a month. Not just a little but a lot. One of my doctors told me that it was side effects of quitting smoking, and to be patient. It was my body adjusting. He was right, I no longer cough or have sore throats at all when I vape. My friend who never smoked at all (like you) can vape up a storm and never cough. He has healthy lungs and after a year of vaping, he still does. He just took his yearly pilot physical. He is a professional pilot and passed with flying colors.

exactly this ^^^ .. inhale slowly.. let it sit in your mouth for a couple seconds.. then inhale... exhale through nose (or mouth really don't think this part matters as most people seem to do either or)

You've been here longer than me.
Even I have witnessed the "you don't smoke...why would you want to vape".

You might want to re-read that though. I was siding for him.

It sounds like she is vaping pre-filled cartos. How about getting some blank ones and putting in some better juice?

Blu Ecig cartomizers are 100% VG and some people have chest/ coughing issues with high VG juice. VG also mutes flavor. The industry juice standards are either 70/ 30 or 80/ 20 PG/ VG. Filling your own cartomizers is not only less expensive but, more importantly, opens a whole new world of delightful flavors. Although generally not a supporter of non smoking vapers I applaud and fully understand your reasons.
The Very Best of Luck.

my quit smoking councelor (spelling?) informed me that coughing in the beginning of a quit is normal. Some people start coughing the first week while some don't start until the second or third week into a quit. It is the "little hairs" in the "air tubes" (trying not to sound too medical) that are awaking back up. This is common with any type of quit from analogs (especially cigarettes).

That was my first big quit - before I decided to do the vaping. I was quit for almost 6 months and coughed a lot near the beginning (half way through the first week and on through the fourth week). I was told, take ice chips and let them melt to help keep my throat wet to help with the cough and take a honey cough drop (because it does not contain any medicines) to help sooth the cough if it became too hard. I was also told not to drink anything with caffein (it would dry up my throat as well), not to drink any citrus juices (orange juice, pineapple juice, etc..) cuz it can also make the coughing difficult. If nothing worked or if the cough was the normal "smoker's cough" which is very dry and hard and of course if my asthma started acting up/difficult breathing to consult with my doctor about it.

If your wife is coughing and has mucos (sp??) or flem coming up, as long as it does not look like an infection then it is a very good sign. That is the "hairs" waking up and also the lungs expelling a lot of the nasty garbage from the lungs. You won't have that cough mainly because you didn't smoke and your "hairs in the air tubes" are not "sleeping" and you also do not have a lot of the nasty stuff in the lungs.

congrats to her for quitting smoking, let her know she will get through the coughs and help her when you can. Soon, she will breath better at night and be capable of breathing much better with less if any coughing at all.
