This forum is so full of enthusiasm. I've only been vaping about a month and I'm happily gobbling up opinions and knowledge from experienced vapors. DH started when I did and it's been smooth vaping from day one. OTOH I'm struggling with many factors which I'm trying to patiently work through. I'm a huge fan of sensory experiences so I hope this vaping odyssey won't be the start of a huge let down.

Before we left for our month long passage up the coast I placed my first juice order with MBV. We have all Kanger, VV and standard 1000 mAh batteries, T3 and Mini Protank 3 tanks.

1. Coughing after vaping. I realize that I'm coming off analogs and some purging will be necessary. Thanks to a thread I read I've begun doing mouth hits instead of lung hits which makes it less harsh.
2. Right eye twitching. Might be due to higher nic level, I'm vaping 12 and 6 but feeling I should step down to 6-0. Read an article that said tonic water, which has quinine, relaxes muscles. This helped. Also read a thread that recommended calcium and magnesium to replace lost minerals due to vaping. Don't have access to Gatorade ATM but will give it a try when I can.
3. My biggest problem is I'm unable to taste or enjoy the juice. Been drinking loads of water, brushing, popping cinnamon tic tacs, adding loads of hot sauce to foods in an attempt to wake up taste buds. Changing to mouth hits helped ... DH is loving every flavor I chose from MBV. I OTOH am having a DULL experience. All the MBV juices have extra flavor shots, have been caps off steeped for 2 days when we first got them and I shake them occasionally. The only one I moderately enjoy is hazelnut coffee.

I've recently placed juice orders wih AiV, Nirvana, Gothic, Juicy Vapes so that they'll have time to steep when we pick them up at our next destination. I'm REALLY hoping switching to organic flavoring and higher VG will make vaping more effervescent. I'm not slamming MBV, DH will happily continue to vape them. I'm stuck vaping them for another 2 weeks and I've got my hopes high that one of the juices I ordered will take me closer to Nirvana. But it's 2+ weeks away and I'm anxious. Will "Gourmet", organic juices provide a DRAMATIC change in vaping experience? I can't wait to find out. Please tell me what happens at the end of the movie!!! I hope the handsome lead character doesn't die :(

Suggestions on alternative equipment is definitely welcome. I plan to rebuild our coils in the future because I like tinkering and gear. Since we live on our boat I'm not sure DIY juices is in my future for practical and storage reasons, but I might be talked into it :)

Thanks for reading...

I would recommend trying a different vendor. I've seen plenty of love/hate posts about MBV just in the last few weeks alone it's not for everyone and primarily focused at new vapers looking for cheap juice. I'd recommend Ahlusion as something to try and let them know what you are experiencing and what you are using for equipment. Personally I saw a noticeable jump in flavor rewicking all my Kanger heads with sterile or organic cotton because I use high VG. Primarily using Mini 2's here which I prefer over the Mini 3. I've also found Velvet Cloud Vapor has some strong flavors, although it's 100% VG, and cotton wicking was a must in that regard. Are using 50/50 now? I had a lot of coughing from a PG sensitivity along with a very sore throat. I'm a foodie and now enjoy vaping a great deal.

Hi. There are a lot of side effects from actually quitting smoking, so not everything is related to actually starting vaping or using vaping products. Don't confuse the 2.

Also, it sounds like you might have vaper's tongue. At the very least, your tastebuds take, @ minimum, a few weeks to months to recover from the numbing effect from cigarettes.

There are articles and posts around ECF. Yes, there is a lot of enthusiasm here, but we all started in the same place and experienced many of the same things. Not all eliquid is the same. I never had trouble taste the flavors of my starter liquids, which consisted of Halo, HHV and Goodejuice NETs. And I have never experienced vaper's tongue, so I might be an exception. Everyone is different. Hang in there.

As long as you go into it and understand that vaping and smoking are VERY different. You will find your niche. I would suggest trying to make vaping a new experience and not trying to use it to replicate smoking. You will probably be dissapointed. Before you go out and buy bug bottles, try getting some sample packs of different juices and find out what flavours you enjoy. As for me I LOVE dessert vapes. Chocolate and butterscotch. You will find your happy place just don't give up :D

Once you get your taste back, I would definitely try another vendor to see if it's just those juices you don't care for. Maybe I didn't try the right flavors but I really didn't care for them. I may go back and try a couple flavors I've been hearing are good, from people that aren't the vendor's biggest fans (one of them is moo juice but I forget the other one). Anyway, definitely try more than one vendor to make sure that's not the issue. Until your vape tongue goes away though, I wouldn't go for anything gourmet. Could be a waste of money.

It is easy to waste money when you start. I gave away a whole box of Halo, Joyetech, and Kalamazoo before I got it all figured out myself. Few at a time is a good idea. I wouldn't be afraid of the gourmet vendors because of price, they were the answer for me, but make small orders until you find something that works for you. I have made that mistake and regret it.

1) I've read that vapor is atomically larger than cig smoke, so lungs sore from smoking do not take in the vapor as easily. I find this to be true for me, and especially for my wife, who is still a smoker, and just can't take a puff on a PV without coughing.
2) You're not getting the depressant chemicals from a cig anymore, just the nicotine, which is a stimulant. Your nerves will adjust. I have "Benign Essesstial Tremor", which means my hands and nerves shake just a little, and of course its exacerbated by Nic and Caffine. 6mg works well for me.
3) I'm one of those MBV "haters". There's alot of better juice out there(calm down folks, just my opin). Maybe its time to dry burn your coils?
I'm not familiar with PT3s because I hate the PT1 & PT2 for how bad they mute flavors (PT2 being slightly better). My T3s haven't been that bad, but Protanks are notorious for flat flavor unless you rebuild with microcoils and cotton, and even then....just a little better.

When I quit I had that same eye twitching issue and my doc told me that it was from nicotine withdrawal. He said I was getting way less nic than I had been getting from the cigarettes vaping 18-20mg nic juices. I have read some studies since then and I have read that the cigalikes don't give the vaper hardly any nic and most times folks are unsuccessful at quitting smoking because of this. I started ordering the absolute highest nic juice i could get and my issue was cured.... so to speak lol. I am now back down to 6mg and am working toward 0mg.

As far as not tasting... taste is so subjective and you may just need to try another brand. Your other half may love something that you absolutely hate....Good luck to you!!

This is very encouraging. I ordered 65/35 since as a newbie I was erring towards for more flavor. My next venders are whatever mix they recommend ranging from 0-6 nic.

If you like tinkering rewick the stock Kanger attys with cotton. You don't even have to rebuild the coils at first. It helped me a lot, better flavor, better vapor. Kanger Mini 2 works for me because I take them to work everyday and found the flavor better than the portable offerings from Innokin. I take 3 flavors to work every day to avoid taste bud fatigue which also helps and have a bunch more Kangers at home filled with different things with the same goal in mind.

Don't give up. Keep trying different vendors, ordering small bottles until you find your "sweet spot". Maybe try something with a different "flavor profile". I have found that I really enjoy bakery/creamy style eliquids; coffees and menthols just do not sound appealing to me. Maybe try some eliquids without the extra flavor shots? I read somewhere on here that too much flavoring can make an eliquid unpalatable. Since everyone's taste is different, you have to go with what tastes good to you, no matter what anyone else says or how good it sounds when you read about it. You will find it.

As suggested in replies to this post, I just replaced the old silica wick with cotton from a cotton ball. The guide I used did not replace the flavor wicks, but did say to drip the juice directly onto the coil/cotton before reassembling. I can tell there's a difference in vapor. It's warmer and airier. I shall do this with fresh coils from now on. Thanks for the suggestion!

Still can't really taste/enjoy the flavor but that's my physiology. Hopefully my vapors tongue will clear up before we get our vape mail and a whole new Universe will open up!

I'm glad to hear with your sensitivity that 6 nic is working better for you :) It's been my experience that the 12 nic has been leaving me a bit woozy as well. Glad my next sample juice orders are ranging from 6-0 nic now :) Thanks for sharing that Rodeorat!

First I tried dry burning the coil as you suggested but it tasted burnt afterwards. So I replaced the wick with cotton. It was easy to do. Didn't make the little bit of flavor I taste any more appealing but, from my very limited experience, the draw is smoother.

My past analog usage was on and off depending on mood and circumstance, so I'm not actually addicted to nicotine per se. I just love the act. If 0 nic works AND I can enjoy the creamy desserty flavors I'm dreaming about I'll be more than happy when the credits roll!

On the juice topic...when I started I thought I wouldn't like fruit flavors, coffee flavors, and a few others that I saw on vendor sites and mostly stuck to vanilla (which I loved). I was so wrong! It turns out I love a lot of those things. Buy samples--that is the best way to try things out until you hit on what you like best. And to avoid vaper's tongue, I vape several different types of juice throughout the day--a bakery/vanilla flavor, fruity flavor, and a caramel latte. That works for me. Try some vendors like Nicoticket, The Vapor Chef, Alice in Vapeland (love those a lot!), Velvet Cloud Vapor. They are a little pricey, but I have yet to get a bad juice from any of them. I also like Killer Juice, which is much less expensive, especially Vanilla Milkshake and Caramel Latte.

Save the juices you don't like so much now to try later on. You may find that you actually like them..

glointhedark, I've tried a bit of the fruity, some tobacco, some dessert and one coffee that's deep and rich. I'm gravitating toward rich and creamy but not overtly sweet. Which creamy flavors are you enjoying?

cbrite, In terms of flavor I'm singing the same song as you are, theoretically ... But since I'm temporarily unable to vape anything other than MBV, with little satisfaction, I can't confirm it. Thank you for the vender and juice suggestions. I will refer to them if I get passed this purgatory stage

As for saving juice, I'm living with "Mikey" so anything I pass on initially will be recycled promptly seeing that as a good thing

My wife and I started with ego's, good then I got SVD, better, love it, still use it on occasion. The Vamo was next, and loved it, about the same as the SVD. Wife has one of those also. The my big revelation hit. I won some devices in a contest. The one that really hit home is the VTR, the best I could imagine. I could not believe the enormous difference in flavor, vapor volume, and overall better experience. I used to be a real MBV devotee. then I tried Lucky 7. their juices are fantastic. They are my primary supplier, but I'm not so arrogant to not be open to trying something new. So every now and then I'll get something different. I just got some juice from US Vapes, it's really good. and will buy there again. I was lucky and never had vapers tongue, so I can't say I know what you are going through there. I know that the with VTR I can vape at 12 to 133.5 watts and it's so much better.

gpc2012, I just looked up the SVD and VTR. I'll be happy to step up into SVD when it's time to replace/upgrade current hardware, but the VTR looks intimidating right now . Thank you for pointing me in an advanced direction! All the fancy hardware discussions have me truly flummoxed.

Most of the eliquids that we get are from Mt. Baker Vapor. I have really enjoyed the Bavarian Cream, Vanilla Custard, Moo Juice, Strawberry Shortcake, Salacious Strawberry, Banana Cream Pie. Blue Moo for me was not quite "all that", but at the time I tried it we did not really have a stash built up, and I think it may have needed to steep a bit more. All the above from MBV, to me, need steeping.

Horchata from The Vapor Room was really good to me. Nice and creamy, the flavor reminded me of a good rice pudding. It is one of their "Flavors of the Week" this week through Sunday night - $10.00 for a 30 ml bottle. Use code "thankyou" for 10% off your order. I have never had the actual drink horchata, but I really enjoyed this eliquid.

If you decide to try Lucky 7, they have a Vanilla Bean Ice Cream that I have seen get good reviews. I have not tried it yet. Right now, Lucky 7 is a little slow on shipping, but they are working on it. I placed my order on April 23, and got it yesterday. Great prices, though. My daughter has already tried the Belgian Waffle that I ordered for her, and she told me this morning that that one is a win for her. We have not had a chance to try any of the other flavors we ordered from Lucky 7 yet.
