I wish I would have gotten an aero tank instead of protank 3. Not that I don't like it but I think I'd like the aero tank better

Mathis - Just grab you an Aerotank base =) You can get them at various places all over for 5$ ish.. To be honest I purchased the protank 3,, and then not realizing the 'big' difference is just the base, ended up buying the Aero..

As to the original question asked..

YES & NO - Yes you CAN put them in, will they work,, no not really.. The collar of the dual coils where the rubber ring sits is quite a bit higher than on the Protank coils.. This means it wont seal up to the down-tube. Likewise you can't use a dual coil one in a protank because the collar is too tall.

All of the full size bases are interchangeable though. The Aerotank base will work in all the protanks, and vice versa.

Attaching photos (protank 3 / aerotank)

Coils in bottom row are Tall style DUAL, short style dual, and protank 1/2/mini

I saw mentioned in another post. I've not done this, don't know if it actually works, your mileage may vary, etc.

If you take the clearish rubber like grommet, the part that sits on the chimney and seals against the airflow tube in the center of the tank, from a second coil and put it on upside down on top of the grommet of the coil you want to install it will make up enough distance to form a seal and allow the single coil to work.

Personally, it doesn't seem like that would be enough thickness added to make it work but the idea itself, that of adding something to deal with the extra space, seems sound.

So most of you are saying yes but pirgulation is saying no. I dont want to order a bunch of protank 2 single coils on ebay and find out it wont have a tight seal and will leak/flood.

On another note will a protank 2 base fit on an aerotank in essence making it a protank 2?

Yes - but all it essentially does is makes it into a protank *3* with a little different styling.

Look at the pics - and you can see the difference. However I also saw somewhere showing doubling up the rubbers one upside down on top of the other, and that 'may' work,, YMMV..

There is quite a bit of difference though, which is obvious without even measuring.

I'm going to try out a Kanger Airflow Control Valve on my ProTank II to see if it helps any. I do agree they give a weak hit. Not my favorite tank right now.

You're going to love it!! I just started rebuilding the coils for them too. 32 guage kanthal, 5 wraps around a 1/16 drill bit with a cotton wick..........dang, what great flavor and vapor!! I never thought I would rebuild the little coils but it makes a BIG difference when paired with the Aerotank base.

I have both the Evod 2 and now the Aerotank. The Evod 2s must have come with 1.8 or 1.5 coils because the originals were great. I replaced with a 2.0 (because it seems hard as hell to find 1.5 anywhere) and its weak at best. So I swapped out with a 1.5 single coil on one of my Evod 2s to test. So far, no leaking. I have done nothing to the grommet. In my logic the grommet fix doesn't seem like it should work. Putting another grommet on upside down would only create a small well to block the stem (since the base is meant to go over the coil and not the stem) so I dont see how that would do anything other than reduce the amount of liquid around the stem. Basically, the suction would meet resistance to liquid flow but it would not seal to prevent flow. So, what about swapping the chimney from a dual coil? Would it even fit? I haven't tried since all my single coils are spoken for at the moment. More of a mental exercise and to see if anyone else has experimented. Would a PTII base fit on an aerotank?
