Hey ALL!

I hope I posted this in the right place....

I got my VERY FIRST mod!!! - SmokTech’s "The Natural" with their AC9 cloned RSST. (Sorry Vapinaze/RiP. All about the money and experience right now. I’ll get a real one later! ;) Bought two MNKE unprotected 18650 1500 mah cells, and 32ga wire. (I wanted 28ga but Temco on eBay was out of stock at the time.)

I’ve been working with it for about 2 weeks now.

I bored out the top cap airhole to 1/16”, am using a twisted 32ga 4/3 wrap on 400 ss mesh metering out between 1.3Ω - 1.5Ω. So in the end I’m putting out about 3A @ about 12W of power. (As far as the math goes anyway.)

Not bad, but not great. At 3A it feels a little too much.

First, can I SAFELY continue vaping this without any protection circuitry?
I have a Kick and am thinking of getting an 18500 cell to fit with the Kick along with the 18650 extension tube already on it so I can have some kind of safety protection.

Second, they say to get an 18490, but will an 18500 flat top work?

I have an LR 306 along with a DC 510 atty coming in too for some variety.

How would switching the Kick in and out with the RSST, and atty’s be?

Ultimately, what would you guys do to make this particular setup vape best?

I’d REALLY APPRECIATE your ideas and advice.

My avatar is the setup!

Thanks!
-JS ;)

I don't really see any issues with 1.3 ohms. Some guys have been pushing .5 ohm dual coils unprotected and are having no issues. I've been vaping an aga t2 at .9 ohms for a while now and a dripper at 1 ohm both unprotected. I'm using AW IMR batteries both 18650 and 18350 in my mechs and they have performed flawlessly. I've never had experience with MNKE batteries but I don't see anything wrong with your set up

Safety: Your MNKE batteries are IMRs. They don't need protection because they don't explode if overtaxed (hard short for more than a few seconds). They will get really hot. (like 250 deg. F). Also, MNKE 18650s are rated at 20amp max. continuous discharge. So you're not pushing any envelopes there. Rather than a kick, I would suggest sticking with those batteries, and dialing in your vape with the resistance and style of your builds. Much more satisfying, less finicky, better battery life, and, at this point, free (since you already have the batteries)

Thank you for the quick response!

Maybe I just need to make my wick tighter? Thicker?

It's not wicking fast enough and liquid is sitting on top of the atty.

Def cannot chain vape this.

BTW for my future ref, I paid $15 ea. for the IMKE 18650's! How do you like the AW's? Obv. they're an extremely popular battery and a bit less expensive.

Thanks again Haber!

Yeah, I mean I spent $30 for 2 IMKE's! Not cheap! LOL

So what do I do? Sell the Kick? I mean it IS a $45 brand new device!

Very cool! Thank you!

It could be your wick is too fat? it needs room in the hole. A lot of the wicking happens on the outer surface.

This is EXACTLY what's happening!!!

I'm wasting tons of juice. In the cap and everything!

It's not tight, but JUST FITS with no room for the liquid on the OUTSIDE?!

AND apparently I'm using WAY TOO LITTLE ss 400 mes! 1 1/8" wide and rolled with a HUGE channel!

It's like a straw!

Are these my issues?

Yours looks awesome btw!

Also, I'm looking at your pic (TY BTW :) and your coil is very closely wrapped.

Could my coils be too far apart too?

Thank you for following this and helping me! I REALLY appreciate it!

THANK YOU!
