Every year I've vaped so far, winter comes around and (not being a hermit) I usually find my way outside sooner or later. Being that I'm so accustomed to vaping ALL the time, winter usually seems to bring the lovely problem of COLD batteries when it's below 30*ish. And it drives me up the wall. Sometimes it makes me look like an idiot too, like when you go outside with all the smokers (begrudgingly of course) and your PV shuts down 5 minutes into the adventure. That usually leads to "see why cigarettes are better" comments from said friends which can't be tolerated. Then there's the "oops I left it in the car for 10 minutes while i got xyz", while you spend the next 10 minutes holding it up to the heat.

What do you all do to stave off the cold when you can't avoid being outdoors? I know some of you are gunna say "well, I just put it in my pocket", but honestly it's a huge pain in the rear when you're wearing multiple layers of clothing. My Buzz batteries will stay cold unless they're on the innermost layer of jacketry, and jeans don't hold any heat whatsoever. Last winter I had to undo 3 zippers, put my buzz in my shirt pocket, close it up, and repeat that whole process 2 minutes later when I wanted it again which was a little much. Apparently the aluminum sucks heat from the batteries very quickly, go figure. I also learned very quickly not to leave it in my outer jacket pocket either, they would take FOREVER to warm back up after being outside for extended periods and usually I had to resort to one battery under each armpit, which was an interesting first for me.

Honestly I'm a little amazed nobody has come up with an electric PV sock or something to that extent. Even something less gadgety, I know there are some resourceful people on ECF, and I can't be the only one having this problem. The simultaneous red & blue LEDs (dead battery) during the winter are the bane of my existence.

Until the innovators get innovating be ingenious. Get a USB power pack - the kind used to recharge phones and PV's. Then get a set of USB hand warmers (the fingerless kind). Plug a hand warmer into the powerpack, put the PV into the rolled up mitten sleeve and you have a toasty battery for the duration.

Of course if you're going to all the trouble of getting a power pack that you'll be tethered to anyway, you may as well just use a passthrough and forget the hand warmer part.

It's early - my mind always works in mysterious ways until it stops being dark outside.....

This is news to me!! I knew that nicad batts shut down in the cold but I had not thought about my vaping batts.
Someone needs to invent a remote controlled unit that can be worn under clothes with a long, flexible vaping tube. Then patent it and wait for the vapers to flock to buy them every winter!!

I'm glad someone posted this topic. What about freezing juice? Does pg/vg freeze? I dread forgetting a pv in the car overnight when it's going to be in the single digits soon here in Mass.

As for freezing mods, I'm never outdoors for any longer than it takes to plow the driveway and sidewalks. Even then, I'll leave the mods indoors.

I haven't tried it yet, but this year I'm going to use a lanyard to hold it underneath my layers. That way I can pull it out when I want to vape and drop back beneath my layers when I'm done.

That is my cold weather (and sometimes hot weather) method, too. I find the cold really is a non-issue until the temp drops to the thirties. Of course, depending on where you are that can be quite a bit of the year. I don't know how anyone gets by without a lanyard. The only thing that is a pain about the lanyard is when you have earbuds or something else in that region which tend to find amazing ways to tangle up.

I have yet to run into that issue, but I am a light vaper. Iv left it in the car for a while in the cold as well, and it just vapes away. Iv got a ProVari v1, and stock IMR batteries. Oh, and plastic drip tips are a must in the cold!

Plastic drip tips, good point. I should switch to my acrylic tips for the winter. I just know I'm going to get stuck on a frozen stainless steel tip one of these days if I'm not careful, haha.

I usually use cherryvapes drip tips year round, although I have gotten an aluminum drip tip pretty stuck to my lips in the past. I haven't even gotten close to PG or VG freezing, but it does get pretty syrupy when it gets that cold.

Maybe my batteries are more susceptible to getting cold because the buzz is all aluminum.

Juice doesnt freeze, but it gets real thick , I mean real thick, I put my juice in the fridge after steeping and when I go to use them I have to let them warm up to room temp so I can get it to go up my syringe or even when squeezing it from the bottle. I do use 50/50 or higher in VG though, PG does thicken in the fridge but not half as much.

I've not had any issue so far being outside. Its not gotten too much below 20.F. I just keep my provari and spare battery in my jacket pocket.

I'm pretty certain making a cozy for a PV isn't going to do much good. If its not heating up, its not generating much heat to keep in with insulation.

Don't forget that PG is in anti-freeze in our radiators :)

I'm pretty certain the stuff won't freeze in any condition that were roaming around in.
