Gravewolf, I hope you don't mind me posting here, but this is where the topic came up. :)

Thanks bap, you gonna stack some batts in there maybe? :p

Since you have the threads in there, I suppose the locking ring comes next, with male threads on a nipple and a center hole that the chicago screw assembly fits into? Or a GG style switch to just screw into that hole? That cap looks deep enough that a smooth bore hole would be good for the shaft, you could have just the chicago screw part and have a post and a hole that have to line up to fire. Fewer parts to make and it would be shorter.

Notice I didn't show the other end as the switch is somewhere around an inch long and needs shrinkage. :oops:

Asdaq....that is the unfinished 510 end :D

The bottom is still undetermined both length of tube and button....the caravela approach is slick but requires reverse cut threads and that's more work than I'm looking to do. I have an idea using magnets to hold the button in the fire and lock position...headed into hobby lobby to see if I can find some small and strong enough

maybe if you look at this switch style it can give you an idea bap, about 1:50 into the vid, magnets are fun!

That is very similar to what I was thinking....but I feel less original now.....I had also thought about flipping the end for lock but I haven't thought it all the way through since I started thinking it was kinda cheesy and went away from it....but after not being able to come up with a solution I like....it may be less cheesy than I thought :D

@asdaq

Cool! I really like it! Now if it could only shoot tiny bullets I think this can be used for self defense vaping :p I'm a bit tied up with some personal stuff but I'll be back to modding next week. I'm really itching to go back to modding and seeing you guys busy makes me wanna scratch this itch even more!

@bapgood

Why not just add threads to the tube? Or are you out of space to have threads in there? I don't know if magnets could hold the caps securely since mechanical mods can be a bit more forceful.

The tube is thin copper pipe so I'm not sure how good threads would work. I would probably want to sleeve it with some stainless threaded pieces, plus I don't have any really fine thread taps and dies that big, and I'm to big of a girl to set up and try to cut internal threads on my lathe.

I'm working on the boss (wife) for a solution to that. Smithy is having a pretty good sale and their Granite Max lathe mill combo is really calling my name.

I'm just getting ready to head to the shop so we will see what happens.

So I got my button all but done.

A little explanation....the two main pieces will finish pressing together....there is a black delrin piece on the inside that has two magnets epoxyed to it and they move up and down inside the body....the long shaft out the bottom will be replaced with screw in shaft with a magnet opposing the others.

I originally was going to have it so the shaft had a 22mm collar that would just screw out to lock....but I think I have an idea for the top that will push the tube down and truly lock.

Redesign coming for the bottom button....a lot more simple since a lock mechanism will be at the top.

I've been thinking if you can make an add-on for the top to configure it to a vv device so you can have a vv or mechanical mod when you feel like it. The add-on device could house a DNA20 board. The trick is to make a button that would work with both types of configurations.

Mighty fine drip tip there Bap! Aha switch.... truly lock... lock at the top....... I think you lost me somewhere in there. :oops:

I was trying to go for a compact floating tube mod. Floating meaning the ends held to the tube via the battery and magnets....mostly out of laziness but thinking it would be nice to just change tubes for different looks and batteries. But I'm going to try using a simplified floating bottom button and add a collar at the top and similar style of twist lock system as the caravela except you hold the top cap and spin the body and it sinks the battery more towards the top cap which also brings the bottom button up and stops against the tube.

Clear as mud huh :D
