I didn't read all the posts but just from looking at the pics you might try wrapping the coil in the gaps between the strands of the mesh rope in a spiral therefore getting an even laying coil. That might help.also if you do it without oxidizing it and pulse it I bet no hot spots either. Good luck

Bike cables would not work or would work poorly. 1, they are only 1.5mm in diameter, 2, they are drawn through a die to compact and compress the strands and give them a smooth surface. So, too small and minimal if any space in their make-up for liquid to travel through.

Unless they changed the rules mcmaster-carr will sell you whatever length you want regardless of what is says on the product description page. Shipping is usually ~4 bucks but they wont tell you that up front. I got a couple of feet of the smaller 2 sizes and no questions asked lol...

I just order 3 fett of 1/8, 3/32, 1/16 in 7x7, 7x19 etc any 316 stainless cable that was the listed OD's it was like 25$

So I finally joined the wire rope club and all I can say is ohmahgawd.

Managed to score a cheap fake dremel from Harbor Freight so I figured why the heck not, got 2ft 3/32 (AGA-T) and 2ft 1/8 (RSST). Trimmed off the not-so-clean end, about 1/4 inch just to make it nice and neat, cut 1.5" for the AGA, Torched, Quenched, Torched, Air Dryed. 1cm x 2cm #500 mesh as a diaper, 4 wraps of 30awg comes to 1.2-1.3 ohms (Wrapped 2 AGAs).

The 1/8 did have to be wiggled to get it into the RSST, but it did go in. I was originally considering punching out my wick hole to 1/8 in the AGA but I think I like how the 3/32 heats up faster than the RSSTs 1/8 does. I do have sub-ohm on a mech @17-22watts on the RSST and it still takes longer to warm up than the AGA @10watts on VW.

45 degree vaping til almost the last drop in the tank. This stuff is amazing. Thanks for all the info everyone!

ohmahgawd, is enough for me. Will be placing an order next week. Also looking at the nextel 118 as an insulator. Hope every one has a great FRIDAY!$#@#%$@%#&@

Let me know how that nextel works out as a diaper. I've been considering it after rent and bills are taken care of, stuffs pricey.

I've been using XS-18 from kidneypuncher from the get go. It works amazing for hassle free wrapping. I've pushed about 20 tanks through my current setup without having to fiddle with a thing.
+1 The Nextel 118 works wonderfully. It keeps moisture at the top, prevents any and all hot spots, and acts as a buffer against the heatsink effect from the cable. I've been using it with ribbon wire and get nothing but warm flavorful clouds. Easiest thing to set up and coil now. Lasts forever, it seems.

I see on kidneypuncher they say to torch it then rinse it. Is the stuff they're selling already heat-treated? Is the torching just precaution or is it needed for other reasons?

Always a good idea to torch silica before you use it. Some use chemicals to tame the strands. The sleeving from Kidney Puncher tasted nasty without a pre burn.

After reading this thread I decided to try the 3/32 7x7 SS rope as my first wick in my AGA T2 that came in the mail today. I had no luck... bear in mind this is my first RBA and I was using the stock wire piece that comes with the AGA. I got it to glow evenly and everything but the vapor has an awful burned metal taste. So bad that I didn't even try to inhale it once. Also extremely poor vapor production. I tried it with a 400 mesh wrap around the top of my wick, and without it. I tried with a torched and quenched wick and one clipped straight off my spool (simply water rinsed and air dried). Same results on every attempt.

Is this just me being a noob somehow? Is it low quality wire that comes with the AGA? Also, in all my attempts I never really noticed any liquid getting pulled up to the top through/on the wick, even during unlit priming puffs. Maybe I just need to spend a few MORE hours watching youtube videos on the subject... maybe someone will be kind enough to make one specific to building with wire rope?

On a passing thought I think it needs mentioning that the wire rope (and even mesh for that matter) should be thoroughly washed with soap and water before use to remove any oils or other residue picked up during manufacture. And rinsed again after to make sure there is no soap residue. Some people even boil it. I have heard others say the same thing about it not wanting to wick and manufacturing oils might be part of the cause. I think also in some cases it works better if the install rope is already coated with juice or 'primed' if you will so any surface tension of the juice can help aid the wicking process. I have had too may things going on right now to get back to testing this stuff but the one I had going worked very well before I put it aside to recoil. And the only reason I put it aside is because the cotton I wrapped it with on the coil end was getting a little funky cuz I think I got it too hot one too many times. Next setup will prolly have either the Nextel or silica sleeve on it.

Been trying the ss cable method on my DVG, AgaT and Arashi Mini. What can I say this thing....this thing is good stuff :D. I always had wicking problem on my Arashi Mini when using ss mesh, using this method it solved the problem. It wicks far more better and gives more flavor to the juice.

When I first got it I boil it for about 10 minutes, torch the cable, wrap the top part where the coil is with oxidized ss mesh and thats it :vapor:. Now I missed rolling the mesh
