so,
I have been doing some research on capillary action and have found that there a number of factors affecting the performance of a wick.
two of the biggest are the contact angle of the fluid (the ejuice in this case) to the solid (wick) and the diameter of the tube / pore.
there are actually very complex mathimatical formulea for calculating the wick performance, but they are way above my ability :)
so with that being said, using the empherical method, has anyone noticed / documented any performance differences between the different grades of stainless steel ? IE: 302, 304, 316 ?

i would assume there is a difference in the contact angle of these materials, how much i don't know and may be insignificant.

Can I have a question for those who are success in cable wick with lot of vape/smoke, what kind of wattage you are vaping at?
Thanks.

8.5w - 9.5w seems to be the sweet spot for me using 1/16th SS Rope and a 1.4 ohm coil with 2-3 layer of mesh around the top third of the wick.

Whatever 4.2v to 3.8v to a .8ohm coil works out to... sorry, I don't know the math :/ but I can tell you this is absolutely the best vape I've experienced, by far. 32g double coil, 7*7 316 ss rope (cleaned but not oxidized) with a xc-116 diaper at the top to wrap the coil onto. Wicks like mad, vapor and flavor are amazing.

I'll report how it goes once I get the rope in. I ordered 7x19 and will try it with #300, #325 and #400 mesh to see what works best for my juice. I may also look into some 7x7 just for the sake of my own curiosity on which will be better for me. :)

As far as shorting goes, I've never had much of a problem getting a mesh wick to perform quickly without shorting using the original heat, quench, burn method. I've tried all of the oxidation methods and keep going back to the original because it works best for me that way, YMMV.

How long does your coil last, may I ask?

Indefinitely. The SS rope isn't going anywhere, the ceramic under the coil can withstand 1500+ degress so I use the coil to burn it clean.

I don't really know how long it would last before I "had" to replace it but I see no reason why it wouldn't last for months and months and months, or even years, with proper care (ie. periodic cleaning)

Well now, that's being a little generous :) I have been running the same coil on a ceramic setup for about a month. The coil (after dry burning to clean) looks as good as new. We break coils when we fiddle with them. If you get a good no-fiddle setup, the coil should last a long long time. But....Whats the fun in that anyway:D

Alright, I give up. I got ss rope, 3 different sizez. I tried the rope itself, rope with ss mess, rope with cotton, cotton by itself, etc. I tried many different ways for 2 nights. Sometimes I thought I got it but only for couple puffs. Sometimes, it keep saying short. Sometimes, I wanted to smash it and let the dog bite it. I am going back to clearomizer and kanger type with 100% cotton.
Good luck you guys.
